Thursday offers up the first of two scheduled meetings between the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors. Miami will host the second match on March 26th.
Both teams last played on Christmas Day with the Heat defeating the 76ers 119-113 while the Warriors were on the road and lost 114-120 to the Nuggets.
Season Series
Last season, the teams played twice with each team winning at home. The Warriors hold the all-time record having bested the Warriors in 36 of their 69 matches
Miami Heat
Slowly but surely the Heat have risen up the Eastern Conference ladder and find themselves sitting in fourth entering this contest. They’ve won six of their last eight matches.
And, this is with a revolving door of injuries. Just as Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro returned Jimmy Butler was out and this game figures to have some of the core missing again.
Keep an eye on Miami however, as the Magic and Cavaliers are experiencing regression and if any of the teams in the top three spots (Celtics, Bucks, 76ers) suffer any slippage they’ll be ready to pounce.
Heat Stats
Miami ranks 14th offensively (115.6), and tied for 13th defensively (113.8) with a plus net differential of +1.9 which ranks 12th overall.
As the Heat have gotten healthier they have improved against the spread with an 18-12 record through 30 matches.
Heat Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Kyle Lowry, PG (questionable — undisclosed)
- Jimmy Butler, SG (questionable — calf)
- Josh Richardson, SG (downgraded to doubtful — back)
- Duncan Robinson, PF (questionable — ankle)
- Haywood Highsmith, SF (upgraded to probable — illness)
- Caleb Martin, SG (downgraded to doubtful—ankle)
- Dru Smith, SG (OUT for the season — knee)
Golden State Warriors
Although the absence of Draymond Green necessitated changes to the rotation it also served to be timely as it forced Steve Kerr to reexamine the system, his starting unit and rotation.
The resulting effect has been all positive with rookies Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis each contributing in significant manners to wins.
Podziemski is a Swiss Army knife who offers additional ball handling while Jackson-Davis is a lengthy athletic big who quite frankly has been better overall than Kevon Looney (who is looking like he’s lost a step.
Warriors Stats
Golden State ranks 13th both offensively (115.7), and 16th defensively (114.6) with a net differential of plus +1.0 which ranks 14th overall
The Dubs are riding the middle ground emulating their win/loss results with a 15-15 rating against the spread this season.
Warriors Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Draymond Green, PF (OUT indefinitely—suspension)
- Gary Payton II, SG (OUT indefinitely— calf)

Free Miami Heat vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
An interesting matchup given the Warriors are 9-6 at the Chase Center while the Heat are 9-6 on the road. Miami is on a three-game win streak while the Warriors’ five-game win streak ended on Christmas Day against arguably the (still) best team in the West.
If Butler plays it changes the dynamics of the match but Golden State has looked much better overall so I’ll take them to cover.
