Sunday, November 27th the Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks meet for the first of four scheduled contests this season. Atlanta will host again on January 16th while the Heat will host on March 4th and 6th.
Both teams last played Friday with the Heat defeating the Warriors 110-108 while the Hawks lost a chippy 122-128 affair to the Rockets.
The Heat holds the all-time record having bested the Hawks in 73 of their 130 matches. The teams played four times last season with Miami taking three of the four contests.
Miami Heat
Injuries have plagued the Heat all season with Jimmy Butler missing seven of their 20 games and Tyler Herro absent in eight. Ironically, the 36-year-old Kyle Lowry is the only Heat player to have played in all 20 matches.
Lowry has channeled his younger self trying to carry the Heat in matches they were so short-handed Erik Spoelstra had to put a jersey on a player just to have eight dressed players on the bench and meet the minimum requirement.
In the last five matches, Lowry is averaging 19 points, 7.6 assists, 6.4 rebounds, one steal, and 1.2 blocks while shooting 39% from deep on 8.2 attempts.
Offensively, the Heat score 108.6 points per game (27th rank) shooting 44.6.0% from the field (26th) and 33.5% from the perimeter (23rd).
Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 109.5 points per game ranking ninth. Miami opponents shoot 47.3% from the field (tied 21st) and 35.1% from the perimeter (11th).
Gabe Vincent (knee), Max Strus (shoulder), and Duncan Robinson (ankle) are all questionable while Jimmy Butler (knee) was downgraded to out on Sunday. Victor Oladipo (knee), and Omer Yurtseven (ankle) are out indefinitely.
Atlanta Hawks
The loss to the Rockets highlighted many of the issues that plague this Hawks squad. While they have no problem scoring they take great pleasure in punking their opponents but either aren’t capable or aren’t willing to deliver the defense required to back up their words.
In Houston, there were countless flops (see Jalen Green sixth PF where Young KICKS him but gets the call) occurring and things got very chippy as Trae Young tried to get under the skin of the young Rockets hoping they would roll over and just hand them the win.
Instead, the taunting fueled the young Rockets who took exception to their disrespect, erasing a 15-point deficit to capture the win and embarrass Young and Dejounte Murray who combined for 83 points but still lost!

On the season, the Hawks rank ninth in scoring with 114.8 points per game. Atlanta shoots 46.3% from the field and 32.7% from the perimeter ranking 19th and 26th respectively.
Defensively, the Hawks allow opponents to score 114.7 points per game ranking 22nd overall. Atlanta allows their opponents to shoot 46.4 percent from the field ranking 12th and 33.0% from the perimeter which is the third-best mark.
Clint Capela (dental) and Jarrett Culver (hip) are questionable for Sunday. Bogdan Bogdanovic (knee) is out indefinitely.

Free Miami Heat vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction:
To reiterate my stance from prior previews – I’m not sold on the Hawks being an elite club. Their easier schedule benefitted them, and Trae Young has become the new James Harden.
He’s constantly baiting refs via his flops and hi-jinx which is annoying opponents and will eventually result in foes targeting him on defense to get their own brand of revenge.
Miami for example is a team who won’t accept his nonsense and they’ve got players who can flop and also defend — so I’m taking the points as well as the win for the Heat.
