(27-34) Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs (36-26)
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers were an offensive juggxrnaught for the fourth game in a row on Thursday night in Miami, putting up 131 points en route to a blowout win on the road.
It was LA’s fourth win in a row and 16th consecutive with at least 100 points. The late push has some Lakers fans talking playoffs, though it would still be a shock if LA found its way into the postseason.
They are still six games back of the eighth seed with three teams in front of them.
Isaiah Thomas played 30 minutes off the bench and scored 29 points on 11-for-20 from the field. He led the game in scoring but Luke Walton was most complimentary of Lonzo Ball after the game.
Ball only shot five times and scored eight points but he had six rebounds, seven assists and six steals. His +25 was a game-high.
Ball has mentioned his nutrition and water intake in recent interviews and I believe he’s making some adjustments that will help him long-term.
Reports from UCLA were that he wasn’t the greatest at taking care of his body, as far as what he put into it and if you have watched any of his family’s reality tv show, some of the early episodes confirm that.
With an improved diet early in his career, he will play better later. He may even be seeing some of those benefits now.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs couldn’t slow down Anthony Davis on Wednesday night. The Pelicans’ star had another big night with the stage to himself and New Orleans won in San Antonio.
The Spurs need to win all of their home games these days because they have been lousy on the road. The Pelicans game was the first back at the AT&T Center after going 2–4 on a six-game road trip.
Looking at the immediate schedule, the next two games are quite winnable home tilts (this one and Memphis) before a brutal three-game road trip (Golden State, OKC, Houston).
Of course, the news in San Antonio continues to be about Kawhi Leonard, who at this point has just been a super disappointment. We’ve basically gone the same season thinking we’re going to see Leonard, yet we haven’t seen him at all.
I’m not putting it past the Spurs that this has been more or less the plan the entire time. Somehow, they are still right there for the 3-seed. They just always do more than it seems like they’re doing.

The Lakers are going to have a tough time trying to run the Spurs off their home court. I’ll take San Antonio and it might be at a decent price given the Lakers’ recent form.
