Wednesday, June 16th the Utah Jazz and LA Clippers will tip-off in Game 5 of their Western Conference semi-finals with the series deadlocked at two games apiece.
The Clippers returned home to LA winning both Game 3 and Game 4 to even the series. Mike Conley hasn’t played yet in the series and with Donovan Mitchell playing on a sore ankle, it feels like the momentum has shifted dramatically in the Clippers’ favor.

LA Clippers
When the Clippers stay focused and are invested in the full 48 minutes it’s hard to envision anyone beating them. That point was punctuated in the first quarter as LA took a 30 to 13 lead into the second quarter.
The problem is they have a tendency to go on extended stretches where they lose focus or stop doing the things that make them successful.
Clearly, a big key is for their two superstars and while Kawhi Leonard has delivered repeatedly his running mate Paul George has been hit and miss although in LA he delivered. The pair each scored 30 or more points in back-to-back games.
Ty Lue stuck with the small ball lineup which was the best tweak of the series so far. It forces Rudy Gobert to be pulled away from the rim in order to cover Marcus Morris Sr. (and sometimes Nic Batum) at the perimeter which opens the driving lanes for Leonard and PG.

Morris Sr. scored 25 points hitting 5 of 6 of his perimeter shots and was a big reason why LA got out to such a strong start. As expected, Terance Mann is getting more playing time and while he only chipped in three points he was a game-high +15.
The Clippers bench once again dominated outscoring the Jazz 21 to 11 which was augmented by a poor Jordan Clarkson performance and again, the absence of Conley which forces Snyder to go deeper into his rotation.
Utah Jazz
For the sixth consecutive game, Donovan Mitchell reached the 30 point threshold but it didn’t translate into the victory.
Game 4 was his poorest shooting performance (efficiency-wise) of the playoffs as he collected 37 points on 9 of 26 from the field. Mitchell shot better from the perimeter (6 of 15 for 40%) than the field or near the basket.
Perhaps the shots closer to the basket and his reluctance to drive had to do with his sore ankle. He also added 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal while collecting 13 points from his 15 trips to the line.
The trio of Joe Ingles (19), Bojan Bogdanovic (18), and Rudy Gobert (11) were the other double-figure scorers.
The big news is Mike Conley appeared on the injury report as questionable. His presence would offer big dividends as the team is relying so heavily on Mitchell and Ingles to create.
