The Eastern Conference has been more competitive throughout the 2015-16 NBA season than we’re used to seeing from years past. Parity is in the air, but the catch is that there’s a clear difference between the top two teams out East at the rest vying for playoff positioning.

Entering Friday’s contests between the Indiana Pacers and Atlanta Hawks, are on the opposite ends of the standings, yet they’re only separated by two games in terms of winning percentage. Home-court advantage goes to the Hawks in this one.
Indiana Pacers
Indiana enters this one coming off a 114-100 win over the Brooklyn Nets. A 14-point victory is never something to scoff at, but there’s one important detail to note about the triumph.
It came against the Nets.
The lowly Nets will hardly resemble the Hawks. Indiana needs to be prepared for a team that moves the ball well and plays with cohesion.

Including their win over Brooklyn, the Pacers have won three of their last four, which should cause a sigh of relief for fans in Circle City who had watched their team win just one of its previous seven before that.
Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks enter this one coming off a monstrous 124-86 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. Not to sound like a broken record…but we have to go here. A 38-point win is nothing to scoff at. In fact, it’s pretty remarkable.
But the catch is that they were going up against a team that hardly qualifies as an NBA franchise these days. A game against the Pacers will be the exact opposite.
When Indiana comes to town, the goal will be to contain Paul George. This is a talented roster with multiple weapons, but it their success comes and goes with PG13.
Expect the Hawks to lock in on the opposing superstar, but despite a potential low-scoring output from George, the former Fresno State standout will look to get his teammates involved.
Atlanta better be ready to switch and switch often on the point-preventing side of the ball.

The Hawks may not be on the same level they were last season, but they’re still in a race for the No. 3 spot out East — one they currently own. And as good as the Toronto Raptors are this year, we’re far from giving them the silver medal in terms of the East’s final standings.
The Hawks are the more consistent team in this matchup, and they’ll be the more consistent team throughout the remainder of the season.
