On Monday, November 28th the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Lakers meet for the first of two scheduled contests this season. Indiana will host again on February 2nd.
The Pacers arrive having last played Sunday in a 100-114 losing effort versus the Clippers while the Lakers are coming off a back-to-back baseball sweep of the Spurs taking the Friday contest 105-94 and Saturday match 143-138.
The Lakers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 63 wins in 96 meetings. Last season, the teams played twice with the teams splitting the two-game regular season series.
Indiana Pacers
Although they lost to the Clippers the Pacers have won six of their last eight and continue to be one of the more delightful surprises of the season.
Rookie Bennedict Mathurin has been a standout giving Paolo Banchero a run for Rookie of the Year and legitimately a Sixth Man of the Year candidate based on his 19.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists.
The fact he’s shooting an insane 42.3% from deep on 5.8 attempts per game is perhaps the most surprising part of his game this early in his career.
AND – he’s doing this in just 28 minutes per game.
The Pacers average 115.7 points per game ranking seventh overall. Indy shoots 45.5% percent from the field and 36.0% from the perimeter ranking 24th and 14th respectively.
Defensively, Indy allows opponents to score 114.3 points per game (20th) while limiting their foes to 46.5% from the field ranking 13th, and 36.6% from deep which is tied with the Suns in 22nd.
Andrew Nembhard (knee) is questionable for Friday. Daniel Theis (knee) and Chris Duarte (ankle) are both out indefinitely.
Bennedict Mathurin wants to test LeBron James 👀 (via @washingtonpost):
“A lot of people say he’s great. I want to see how great he is. I don’t think anybody is better than me. He’s going to have to show me he’s better than me.” pic.twitter.com/cx3ghu9n1R

Los Angeles Lakers
Scheduling can dramatically impact a team’s momentum and the Lakers just got a huge gift getting to play the Spurs three times in their last four games.
Combine that with matches versus the tanking Pistons and Nets squad missing Kyrie Irving, Ben Simmons and Seth Curry which translated to five wins out of six contests.
But, don’t drink the Kool-Aid – – this team still has major weaknesses and the upcoming schedule could shine a big spotlight on those shortcomings.
Specifically, after this match, the Lakers will host the Blazers and then will play 13 of their next 17 games on the road. Notably, LA is 2-6 on the road with the two victories both coming in San Antonio.
LA allows opponents to score an average of 114.4 points per game ranking 21st. Their opponents shoot 46.1% from the field ranking 10th and 34.0 percent from behind the arc ranking eighth overall.
The Lakers score 112.2 points per game (16th) while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from the perimeter ranking 17th and 28th respectively.
LeBron James (groin) and Anthony Davis (calf) were upgraded to probable for Monday. Patrick Beverley will serve the final game of his three-game league-mandated suspension.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Pacers are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games.
- The Lakers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games.
- The Pacers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on the road.
- The Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games played in November.
Free Indiana Pacers vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA Prediction:
While the Lakers put up some big numbers this weekend let’s not forget they did it against the Spurs who rank dead last in all the defensive categories!
This is the second game of a rough seven-game road trip for the Pacers with the Kings, Jazz, Blazers, Warriors, and Wolves still to come so the Lakers are by far the easiest opponent in that mix.
Also of note, let’s not forget rookie Mathurin’s early statements (see the Tweet above) about LeBron so we know at least two players will be inspired for this game!
