Tuesday night NBA sees the Indiana Pacers visiting the Detroit Pistons. The Pacers currently hold the eighth spot out East, while the Pistons sit in 11th.
Despite that difference, only 1.5 games separates the two, and in the most “Eastern Conference” thing ever, only 2.5 games separates the eighth and third spots out East.

Indiana Pacers
The Pacers have been a disappointment this season in comparison to their pre-season expectations. Following their offseason moves, the consensus was that this group was going to compete for home-court advantage in the playoffs.
Although there’s plenty of time left in the year, and not much separating them and the fourth-seed Charlotte Hornets, this group doesn’t look like it’s ready to truly turn a corner.

The good news for Indy is that it has a bit of momentum on its side entering Tuesday. It has won two straight against the Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic.
Here’s the catch: Indiana hasn’t won more than two games in a row all season.
The win against Chicago looks nice on paper (111-101), but you have to take into consideration the opponent. Yes, the Bulls are a talented group looking to earn home-court advantage this postseason, but it’s also dealing with behind-the-scenes distractions, including the benching of former All-Star Rajon Rondo during that exact contest.
There’s also the 117-104 win over the Magic, but again: Consider the opponent. Orlando doesn’t have anybody shaking in their boots at this point in the process, as they’re still trying to convert the talented Aaron Gordon into a small forward to put a band-aid over the fact that they created a complete logjam in the frontcourt this past summer.
Getting a win Tuesday night and breaking that two-win-and-bust streak will be difficult on the road against a talented Pistons squad featuring Andre Drummond.

Detroit Pistons
The Pistons’ Andre Drummond is an absolute beast. In his most recent outing, the big man went for 25 points and 18 rebounds with two blocks and two steals.
Here’s the catch: That outing was against a Miami Heat team that was not only without Hassan Whiteside, but the Heat were also running a starting lineup that would make a YMCA pickup game laugh.

As good as Drummond is, the scary part about this team’s future (both short- and long-term), is that he may not even be Detroit’s best player.
That may sound crazy considering the line you just read, but his stats often feel hollow, whereas players like Reggie Jackson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope often have a bigger impact with their 20-6-4 lines.
Look for all three players to make a difference on Tuesday night.
