2017-2018 NBA Previews – Indiana Pacers Odds
Looking for 2017 Indiana Pacers Predictions? We’ve got your back. The Pacers enter this season knowing that a new era is officially underway. No, this franchise didn’t endure an entire roster overhaul like some have in recent memory, but they do have a slew of new faces joining the roster (including the starting lineup). More importantly, they’re officially in the post-Paul George era—an era they decided to get ahead of instead of wondering all year if he’d leave in 2018 free agency.

The Pacers were a team that despite making the playoffs did not take the leap forward they were expected to a year ago. Now, they recognize they’re taking a step back, so the question is: Just how competitive can they be?
Indiana Pacers Strengths:
Myles Turner is going to be a stud this year. In fact, he has a chance to make a name for himself as one of the top centers the league has to offer.
Last season, Turner took significant steps but remained under the radar as far as national attention goes. He averaged 14.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game in 2016-17 and shot 34.8 percent from deep.
This year, everyone will know his name as a big-time shot-blocker who can also spread the floor with his jumper. With George gone, he will be an even bigger focal point of the offense.
Another player to watch out for is Victor Oladipo. He hasn’t yet lived up to the hype of being a No. 2 pick (2013), but in Indy, he’ll have a chance to truly take command of the offense as a combo guard alongside Darren Collison.
Indiana Pacers Weaknesses:
At media day, head coach Nate McMillan had this to say about his team:
“We are focusing on ourselves & understand what we’re capable of. Effort will be there every single night.”
Those are absolutely the right things to say. What else would you want to hear from the leader of your franchise?
All that said, they’re also signs that small wins will be considered victories in a season that’s certainly going to see a number of losses pile up.
For starters, there are three new members of the starting five to whom this unit will now have to adjust. Darren Collison, Oladipo and Bojan Bogdanovic are all talented players, but Collison is more suited to play backup at this point, Oladipo (as previously mentioned) has underachieved and Bogdanovic will likely never sniff All-Star status.
The other fact—an even more harrowing one at that—is that this team is going to have plenty of struggles on both ends of the floor. With the drop-off in talent this team endured, scoring the ball is going to be rough. And unlike some bad offensive teams, their defense is also going to struggle.
Indiana Pacers Betting Prediction: 30-52
There’s not much to be excited about when it comes to the immediate future of the Pacers. They’re not a free-agent destination, and they’re certainly not going to improve their chances at acquiring a star with a losing season.
That’s why the development of both Turner and Oladipo are crucial.
If this team is going to find any semblance of success this season, it’s going to be with those two young players turning into full-fledged stars. Anything short of that and they’re looking at dropping well below mediocre in 2017-18.
