These two teams are fresh off a matchup Monday night, a game that saw the home Nuggets win 129-113, covering an 11-point spread (their third win ATS in as many outings and fourth in five).
The road Rockets failed to cover but that was the first time in four outings for the team with the worst record straight up in the Western Conference.
Houston Rockets
Just to get it out of the way…I’m not too worried about the moneyline on this one. Houston is the worst team out West for a reason, and the Nuggets are better across the board, even shorthanded.
Let’s spend some energy looking at this 11.5-point spread.
As the away team this season, Houston’s record against the spread is 6-6. The team is also 10-9-1 ATS as the Underdog and 6-6 as the Away Underdog.
Of course, as mentioned in the opening, the team is 3-1 ATS in its last 4, not to mention 5-2 in its last 7.
Recent trends speak volumes, but looking at the Rockets’ overall body of work this season (not to mention their latest showing against Nikola Jokic on Monday) leaves doubts on if they can get back on track Wednesday.
On the year, Houston is scoring 110.3 points per contest, which puts the team in 22nd.
In terms of advanced stats, the Rockets score 106.3 points per 100 possessions. That number places them in 27th, which is.
Defensively, this groups allows 116.4 points per night, putting them in 24th so far this season.
Looking at Defensive Efficiency, Houston gives up 113.5 points per 100 possessions—a number that ranks 28th on the year.
As of this writing, the Rockets list Jae’Sean Tate as OUT.
Denver Nuggets
Against the spread, Nuggets are 4-3 at home this season and also 4-3 as the home favorite.
The team is 8-8 ATS overall as the favorite.
Statistically, on the year, the Nuggets are scoring 115.2 points per game. That number puts them in 9th across the NBA so far this season.
Looking at the advanced stats, they’re scoring 113.9 points per 100 possessions—a number that puts them in 2nd behind only the No. Boston Celtics.
Defensively, Denver is giving up 113.8 points per night, which ranks smack dab in the middle of the NBA at 15th, which is also a tie with the Atlanta Hawks.
Looking at Defensive Efficiency, the Nuggets give up 112.3 points per 100 possessions, putting them in 26th across the Association.
On the injury report, Denver lists Bones Hyland, Michael Porter, Jr. and Jeff Green as OUT. Zeke Nnaji is listed as Day-to-Day as of this writing Tuesday night.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Nuggets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
- Nuggets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
- Rockets are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a ATS loss.
- Rockets are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
- Rockets are 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Denver.
Free Houston Rockets vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction:
Jokic really did show out against the Rockets and their center Alpren Sengun—an Internation player who has looked up to The Joker for a long time. Not that a big Jokic game is that unusual, but his 32 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists were joined by shooting numbers like 11-of-17 from the field, 1-of-2 from deep and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.
None of this is to say you should expect Jokic to do it all again…but he just might come close.
Nuggets already have the momentum, and I’m not betting on that to slow down.
Denver gets its fourth win SU in a row and gets it in convincing fashion.
