Wednesday, April 14th the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder play for the first time this season. The teams haven’t played each other in almost a year and a half (November 25th of 2019).
The Thunder holds the all-time record between the squads with 141 victories in 253 meetings. Last season the teams played three times with the Thunder sweeping the season series.
Golden State Warriors
While the match on Monday was marred by Jamal Murray’s torn ACL on the other side of the floor Stephen Curry was making history.
Entering the match Curry needed 19 points to surpass Wilt Chamberlain’s all-time franchise scoring record. He did that and then some dropping 53 points.
In addition, he registered six rebounds, four assists and shot 10 of 18 from the perimeter. The latter mark is the 18th time in his career he’s accomplished that feat.
Curry is on an absolute tear, having scored 32 or more in the last seven matches. During this stretch, he’s averaged 38.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, one steal, and is shooting 45.7% from deep on 13.1 attempts.
Draymond Green added 18 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Also reaching double-figures was Andrew Wiggins with 17 points and Kent Bazemore with 14.
The Warriors are continuing to get more opinions on James Wiseman’s torn meniscus while Kelly Oubre Jr. is out with a sore wrist.
Oklahoma City Thunder
As the full-on tank commitment continues the Thunder are rising (or rather, falling) to their objective. To begin week 17 the team had four more opportunities to add losses with matches on tap versus the Jazz, Warriors, Pistons, and Raptors.
The easiest came via their first match of the week facing the league’s top team. OKC stayed on objective, with a loss albeit keeping it closer than their recent defeats.
While it’s understandable why OKC would want to lose to improve their draft position the recent pattern of blow-out losses isn’t a great habit for a team comprised primarily of youngsters to adopt.
In six of their last seven losses, the Thunder had lost by 21 to 48 points. Granted the club is missing their star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and until the last game was also without Darius Bazley and Luguentz Dort for the last 17 and seven games respectively.
Funny how having quality experienced players in the rotation makes a difference. Case in point, despite the loss Dort put on a show Tuesday scoring a career-high 42 points along with seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
Ty Jerome scored 14 points off the bench while Moses Brown delivered a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds.
They were the only three Thunder players to reach double-figures.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (plantar fasciitis), Al Horford (shut down), Aleksej Pokusevski (arm) and Mike Muscala (ankle) all missed the game Tuesday and other than Pokusevski aren’t likely to play Wednesday.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Thunder are 6-4 in their last 10 head to head meetings
- The Thunder are 5-5 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 1-9 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Golden State Warriors vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction:
The Thunder are 5-7 in second games of back-to-back sets, however, most of the wins occurred when OKC was playing their ‘A team’ and not this younger inexperienced crew.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Warriors ATS
Although the Thunder showed they are better with Dort and Bazley in the lineup they have the rest disadvantage and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Thunder rest Dort and/or Bazley given they’ve just returned from an extended injury absense.
