Warriors vs. Wolves Gameday
It’s a seven-game slate for the NBA on Monday, including the Golden State Warriors facing the Minnesota Timberwolves. It’s the back side of a baseball set in Minny.
With the winter storm raging, the original front side of this baseball set was postponed on Saturday and moved to Sunday.
Whether that helped or not, the Warriors came out hot, winning the front side of this baseball set 111-85. Six Warriors scored in double digits with Stephen Curry leading the way, offering 26 points and seven assists.
Conversely, the Timberwolves struggled with just three players hitting double figures, led by Anthony Edwards 32 points and 11 rebounds, but he also had eight turnovers. The team had 26 turnovers as a whole, and the Warriors stole the ball from them 20 times.

Golden State Warriors vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Odds & Last 5
Last season, the conference rivals played four times, with the Warriors having the upper hand, winning three of four contests. This year, the teams are tied 1-1 in the season series.
The loss of Jimmy Butler has hit Golden State hard, leaving them reeling as to how they can move forward with an eye on the playoffs being a priority. The Dubs had been hot, going 12-4 prior to the injury, but are 1-2 since then. The Warriors hold the eighth seed with a record of 26-21 and are 1.5 games behind Minnesota.
The Timberwolves are slumping, having lost five in a row, including defeats at the hands of the Jazz and Bulls. They sport a 27-19 record and sit in the seventh seed, a half-game back of the Suns and a game behind the Lakers.
The Wolves are 7.5 point favorites with an over/under of 232.5.
Warriors Stats

The West’s eighth seed averages 116.8 points per game while their opponents average 114.2 points. In terms of dimes and boards, Golden State averages 28.8 (sixth) and 42.8 (22nd), respectively.
Team leaders* for key categories are Stephen Curry for scoring (27.4), Jonathan Kuminga for rebounding (5.9), Draymond Green for assists (5.2), De’Anthony Melton for steals (1.4), and Al Horford for blocks (1.0).
As for the perimeter, the Dubs continue to rely on it, but perhaps not as much as in the past. They shoot 36.7% from deep as a team, with seven players shooting 36.2% or better.

Golden State Warriors vs. Minnesota Timberwolves bottom line:
With no other option to turn to, Steve Kerr had to swallow his pride and tap Jonathan Kuminga to play. In his two appearances, the youngster played well but then injured his knee and has been out since.
What happens moving forward is anyone’s guess, as the front office certainly isn’t doing much to increase his value, suggesting there is no interest around the association for his services. February 5th is the trade deadline, which will provide answers at least to one question… will Kuminga remain a Warrior for this season, or will he be elsewhere?

Warriors Wolves Free Pick: Wolves -7.5
Here is my Warriors Wolves free pick.
Minnesota had been rolling and looking poised to make a jump up the ladder, but instead has stumbled and lost five games in a row. The last time Minny lost this many games was over three years ago. Moreover, it was the fewest points they’ve scored in more than four years.
Both teams have a player that is playing well enough to be in the MVP mix (Steph Curry, AntMan) but their teams would need to be better for it to become a reality.
Undoubtedly, Chris Finch will implore his squad to be strong with the ball to cut down on the turnovers, and they shouldn’t need motivation to stop this skid.
Helping them is that both teams are playing a back-to-back, and the Dubs are much older, so Minny should run as much as possible.
Though they’ve looked bad, I’m banking on Edwards motivating the squad to show up and not just end this streak but to do it emphatically.
Take the Wolves to win and cover.
