Game 3 of the NBA Finals is this Wednesday, and the Cavaliers will attempt to turn the tide as the series heads to Cleveland. The Cavs will host the Golden State Warriors who have taken a commanding 2-0 series lead, winning both games in Oakland.
But they also had a 2-0 lead last year when the series headed to The Land, and they need to keep the future from repeating.
The Cleveland Cavaliers were absolutely dominant in the playoffs, losing only one game on the way to the NBA Finals.
But now that they have been handled by the Warriors for two games in a row, fans may question whether they are really that good or the East is just that bad.
The Golden State Warriors, on the other hand, have absolutely no questions to answer thus far. At 14-0, they are on the most dominant playoff run in NBA history and have some experts questioning the possibility of an undefeated championship.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors really are just so good that it seems unfair to the rest of the league. They were already a great team last year, before adding a top five player in Kevin Durant.
And Durant has been the difference in the NBA Finals so far. Durant had 38 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the Game 1 victory and followed that performance with 33 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in Game 2.
Although they seemed sloppy with the ball, committing 20 turnovers, the Warriors were still dominant in Game 2.
They blew out the defending NBA Champions for the second game in a row and won by a final score of 132-113.
The Warriors put on an unstoppable offensive display on Sunday, shooting 52% from the field, 42% from three-point range and scoring the second-most points in NBA Finals history.
They are clearly on a mission to avenge last year’s loss and may very well be on halfway through the mission already.
After coasting to a Game 1 blowout loss, the Cleveland Cavaliers picked up the effort in Game 2, particularly on the defensive side. Unfortunately, that makes the fact that they were blown out again on Sunday even more disappointing.
The Cavs cleaned up the turnovers that had plagued them in the first game of the series, committing only nine for the game and forcing Golden State to 20 on the other end.
However, they allowed themselves to be outrebounded by 14, which was a key in the loss.
Turnovers and rebounding will again be the keys for Cleveland if they hope to turn things around in Game 3. Kyrie Irving will also need much more than the 19 points on 8-23 shooting that he put up in Game 2.
LeBron James did his part again in Game 2 with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists, but he clearly ran out of gas towards the end. Kevin Love also contributed well again with 27 points and seven rebounds.
But they will need all hands on deck to win, meaning Kyrie, Tristan Thompson and others must step up at home.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Cavaliers are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.
- Cavaliers are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing more than 125 points in their previous game.
- Home Team is 4-0 ATS in last 4 meetings.
Free Game 3 Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Prediction:
For all prisoners of the moment who want to proclaim the Warriors the best team in basketball history and expect them to go 16-0, pump your breaks. The series was 2-0 for the Warriors last year as well, and even though Kevin Durant moved to Golden State, LeBron James hasn’t gone anywhere.
4* Free NBA Game 3 Betting Pick: Cavaliers +2.5
Expect more big games from LeBron and Love, and for Kyrie to put on one of his trademark offensive displays.
Tristan Thompson, J.R. Smith and the others will play much better at home, on both ends of the court, and the Cavs will get their first win of the series.
