Detroit has only lost consecutive games twice this season and has yet to lose three in a row, which they will attempt to avoid on Tuesday.
The Lakers arrive following a win but have struggled during their recent schedule segment and in particular in December.
Protecting the paint is an issue for the Lakers who’ll be tested again in this match. Notably, in their losses to the Suns and Houston, they were outscored by 36 points in the paint.
While the Pistons boast a strong defense (they rank second), the losses to the Jazz and Clippers offered evidence that the team has weaknesses. Watch for the Lakers to swarm Cunningham to attempt to get him in foul trouble, as Detroit doesn’t have a ton of scoring punch or ball handlers outside of Cade.
Ultimately, this type of team causes the Lakers problems, and I’m just not convinced they can withstand the Pistons’ shut-down defense. Therefore, I’ll roll with Detroit winning and covering.
