Tuesday, November 22nd, finds the Detroit Pistons and Denver Nuggets playing the first of two scheduled matches. Detroit will host the second meeting on March 16th.
Both teams last played on Sunday with the Pistons losing 129-137 versus the Kings while the Nuggets gutted out a 98-97 win in Dallas.
The Pistons hold the all-time record having bested the Nuggets in 51 of their 95 meetings. Last season the squads played twice with Denver winning both contests and holding a current five-game win streak over the Pistons.
Detroit Pistons
Coming into this season most analysts projected the Pistons as the club that would take the biggest step out of the pool of recent tanking squads.
I’m sure sophomore Cade Cunningham was part of the thought process behind those picks but more logically it was based on the belief this team would be among the better defensive squads.
Well, flash forward to this season and the one area of the hardwood we thought Detroit would excel in is where they’re fumbling. Case in point, the Pistons allow 118.6 opponent points per game (29th).
Nor are they adept at stopping teams from being efficient allowing 48.3% from the field (27th). They’re a bit better on the perimeter limiting foes to 34.3% (8th).
Offensively, the Pistons score 109.4 points per game (24th). From an efficiency perspective, the Pistons shoot the worst of the 30 teams with 43.3% from the field, and are 26th from the perimeter (32.9%).
In fairness, Detroit has played one of the toughest starting schedules facing mostly top-tier teams so there may still be able to turn things around, and even if that doesn’t equate to copious wins at least improve their overall performance.
Saddiq Bey (ankle) is questionable for Tuesday while Isaiah Stewart (toe) and Cade Cunningham (shin) are out indefinitely.
Denver Nuggets
You have to tip your hat to Michael Malone and his Nuggets for finding a way to grind out a win against the Mavericks on their home court where they were 8-2 prior to the match this weekend.
That the Nuggets were missing Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon, is even more impressive. As I predicted in the preview for that game, the absence of their main offensive stars allowed Malone to refocus the Nuggets’ defensive intensity who held the Mavs under 100 points!
This is the second time Jokic has contracted COVID but I’m not sure if this is Murray’s first or second bout. He attended the Canadian national team practices this past summer and Canada has strict vaccine laws so that leads me to believe he is vaccinated.
Denver scores 113.9 points per game (13th), shooting 49.3% from the field (2nd) and 40.9% from deep (1st). They allow opponents to score 113.9 points per game (15th) with them shooting 48.9% from the field (28th) and 35.1% from the perimeter (10th).
Gordon (illness) and Ish Smith (calf) are questionable, Jokic (quarantine), and Murray (quarantine) are doubtful and Jeff Green (knee) is out Tuesday. Collin Gillespie (leg) is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Detroit Pistons vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction:
If the Nuggets can channel a win versus Luka Doncic and the Mavericks taking this match against the Pistons on their home court should be a gimme right?
Well – just like I pointed out for the Kings this could be a trap game especially if the trio of starters is out again especially now that Jeff Green and possibly Ish Smith could be out too.
Because of those potential absences I’m going to take the points but I think the Nuggets still capture the victory.
