Saturday NBA sees two Western Conference playoff hopefuls facing off in the second of a home-and-home.
Thursday night saw the Phoenix Suns travel to the Mile High City to take on the Denver Nuggets. Now it’s the Nuggets’ turn to be the road team following their 127-120 win just two days ago.
*All statistics, rankings, standings and records are accurate as of this writing at 4:00 p.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 27.
Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets enter this contest averaging 110.1 points per contest. That number is good enough for third in the NBA.
Defensively, this group struggles to prevent points. While a lot of that has to do with pace, few players on this roster have proven to be lockdown defenders.
On the year, the Nuggets are giving up 111.1 points per game, which is only good enough to rank them 28th out of 30 teams.

Last outing against Phoenix, Denver got a big contribution from their young center Nikola Jokic. He posted 29 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists while also collecting two blocks and a steal.
These numbers shouldn’t be surprising, though. Not only is Phoenix a poor defensive team, but lines like that are becoming familiar terrirory for this 21-year-old.

Denver also saw Danilo Gallinari (25 points, seven rebounds, 7-of-16 shooting) and Jameer Nelson (13 points, nine assists, four rebounds, 2 steals, one block) step up.
Phoenix Suns
The Nuggets weren’t the only one to get major contributions on Thursday. Eric Bledoes posted 28 points, five assists and four rebounds while Devin Booker scored 24 points along with six assists.
Brandon Knight also did damage off the bench with 17 points and four assists while shooting 8-of-11 from the field.
On the year, the Suns are scoring 106.5 points per contest. That number is good enough for 11th in the NBA.
The problem, just like the Nuggets, is defense. Like Denver, pace plays a big factor into how many points they allow; however, pace doesn’t tell the whole story.

This group, outside of maybe an aging Tyson Chandler, isn’t built to defend.
On the season, the Suns are giving up 111.8 points per night, which is only good enough for 29th in the NBA.
