The Nuggets were blown out on Monday night in Dallas without the services of either Paul Millsap or Nikola Jokic.
Millsap, of course, is out for the next few months. Jokic won’t miss that much time but he won’t be back for this game either. He’s going to miss at least a week or two with a sprained ankle.
That means the Nuggets’ backcourt has to carry the scoring burden. What’s concerning is that Jamal Murray and Gary Harris each had a good game in Dallas but the Nuggets were nowhere close.
Murray went 7-of-12, including 4-of-8 from three, for 22 points; Harris went 7-of-17, which included 3-of-8 from deep, for 21. Will Barton scored 23 on 9-of-20 from the field. So the problem wasn’t those three. Denver can’t expect much better from that trio.
Wilson Chandler killed them in the Dallas game by going 1-for-11. He probably won’t do that again but life will get harder on those guards the longer Jokic remains out. This is a dangerous stretch for the Nuggets.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans were also in action on Monday. They hosted the Warriors and led just about the entire way until the Warriors finalized their comeback in the fourth.
Golden State was down 20 at the half but overcame such a deficit for the second time this season. Steph Curry hit five threes in the win.
New Orleans was without Anthony Davis but their guards showed up to play. E’Twaun Moore scored 27 and Jrue Holliday put in 34, both starting alongside Rajon Rondo in the backcourt. Dante Cunningham stepped in for Davis to score 11 alongside DeMarcus Cousins’ 19. Cousins was ejected from the game late for a fight with Kevin Durant but he was chippy with the referees most of the night, too.
New Orleans fans got some good news with Anthony Davis, too. He’s day-to-day with what looked to be a lot more serious of a groin injury.

Free Denver Nuggets vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction: the Pelicans bounce back to win at home.
If New Orleans plays anywhere near as well as it did against the Warriors, this game shouldn’t be close. Of course, the Pelicans can’t expect to get 60 from Moore and Holliday again but DeMarcus Cousins should manhandle Mason Plumlee when the Manimal isn’t on him. The Pelicans aren’t the same team without Davis but they’re still tough at home and have to take advantage of this one.
