Denver’s biggest problem this season has been turnovers. And that problem reached new heights on Saturday night when the Nuggets turned the ball over 26 times, leading to 40 points for the Sacramento Kings.
The Nuggets fell to 7–14 on the road and 2–5 on the second night of a back-to-back in the loss. The Kings are always bad, but they were without Zach Randolph and George Hill in the win over the Nuggets.
A turnover problem is often the result of sloppy, unfocused and undisciplined play. And considering the spot, in Sacramento against the short-handed Kings, the Nuggets probably weren’t up for that game.
But after an embarrassing loss, they are more likely to have their act together in the next game. They are especially likely to have it together because they are playing in Oakland against the best team in the league — a team Mike Malone said after the Kings game would beat them by 50 if they were loose with the ball again.
Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry was the Reddit story on Sunday morning. He scored 45 points in 30 minutes against the Clippers on Saturday night in the Warriors’ 32nd win of the season.
Curry scored 17 in the first quarter, 12 in the second and 16 in the third before sitting out the fourth. He’s scored 144 points in the four games he’s played in since returning from an ankle injury. Those 144 points have come on 77 field goal attempts (and free throws).
We are just approaching the halfway point of the season and I’m not sure how realistic Curry’s MVP chances are this season. James Harden was the front-runner before he got hurt. He might not miss more than the 11 games Curry missed, but he might.
Curry’s numbers aren’t quite what they were in his second and most dominant MVP season in 2015/16, but they are the next closest and better than his first MVP season.
It doesn’t feel like it can possibly be anybody other than Harden, LeBron James, Giannis or perhaps Kevin Durant, along with Curry. With nobody set to emerge, contenders can only fall (like Harden). If Curry stays healthy and on this pace, he’s going to have a strong case, especially if the others can’t sustain in the second half.

Free Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction: Denver plays better, but not that much better.
The Nuggets ought to be a little more focused in this game than they were on Saturday night, but you don’t beat the Warriors with focus alone.
