On Tuesday, April 27th the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors will meet for the third and final time this season. The clubs played consecutive games on February 4th and 6th with the Dubs winning the first (147-116) while the Mavericks won the second (134-132).
Last season, the squads played three times with the Mavericks sweeping the series. The Warriors hold the all-time record between the squads with 85 victories in the team’s 164 meetings.
Other than Kristaps Porzingis spraining his ankle things went about as perfect as possible for the Mavericks this weekend as they swept the Lakers in the two consecutive games in Dallas.
The resulting effect found the team moving up to the sixth seed supplanting the Blazers and if the Mavs can stay there they’ll avoid the dreaded play-in tournament that Luka Doncic has been vocal about avoiding.
However, as they’ve done all season the Mavericks take one step forward and two steps back. All the positives made by dispensing of the Lakers got spoiled with a loss to the Sacramento Kings on Monday.
Dallas put themselves in the hole right from game start losing the opening frame 31 to 17. They battled back in the middle frame outscoring Sacramento 68 to 56 but couldn’t close out the match.
Luka Doncic led his squad with 24 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. He was joined by Tim Hardaway Jr (19), Trey Burke (19), Dorian Finney-Smith (10), and Boban Marjanovic (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
In fairness Doncic (elbow) Finney-Smith (leg), and Maxi Kleber (back) were all questionable to play Monday, so clearly aren’t 100 percent.
With 12 games left only three are against teams currently seeded and of those only one above the seventh seed (Nets).
The NBA injury report hasn’t been provided by the Mavericks for Tuesday, but Porzingis (ankle) and Josh Richardson (hamstring) are likely out again with the above trio probably a game-time decision.
Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry has been the story for the Warriors’ recent success but what shouldn’t go unnoticed is Steve Kerr has his squad playing the type of defense that helped them win titles.
Golden State entered week 19 winners of seven of their last nine games including statement victories versus the 76ers and two against the Nuggets.
Kevon Looney stepped up and finally looks healthy after battling a myriad of injuries the past few seasons. And, of course, Draymond Green is bringing his special brand of do-it-all (other than score much) and leads the defense.
The timing of the Dubs rediscovering their defensive mojo is perfect because they’ll get some easy pickings with six lottery clubs to feast on after this match against the Mavericks and could string together a long win streak.
Against the Kings, Curry scored 37 points connecting on 50 percent of his triples (7 of 14) while Kelly Oubre Jr. continued to produce off the bench with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Eric Paschall (hip) out indefinitely. Klay Thompson (Achilles) and James Wiseman (knee) are out for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Mavericks are 6-4 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Mavericks are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 8-2 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Dallas Mavericks vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Golden State has the rest advantage but no doubt Rick Carlisle will be drilling his squad to remind them of what lies ahead and how important winning the teams beneath them is. The question is which team has the most healthy bodies available as that will impact the outcome.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Mavericks ATS
Dallas is 5-7 in second games of back-to-backs but three of those wins in their last four opportunities.
