Saturday, December 10th, the Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls will compete in the first of two meetings this season. Dallas will host the second contest on April 7th.
Dallas is completing a back-to-back set currently trailing 52-48 at the half versus the Bucks while the Bulls have the major rest advantage having been off since Wednesday when they beat the Wizards 115-111.
Last season, the squads played twice with the teams splitting those contests. The Mavericks hold the advantage all-time having won 42 times of the club’s 82 meetings.
Dallas Mavericks
The difference for the Mavericks in wins and losses seems to inevitably rely on the support players hitting their perimeter shots. Tim Hardaway Jr. has been on fire of late and his efforts can be tapped as the difference for Dallas in the wins versus the Suns and Nuggets.
The Mavericks score 111.7 points per game ranking 16th overall and ranks 12th for field goal percentage (47.2%) and 14th for perimeter percentage (36.1%).
On defense, the Mavs rank fourth for opponent scoring allowing 108.7 points per game with foes shooting 47.9% from the field and 36.5% from the perimeter ranking 24th and 22nd respectively.
The Mavericks had no injuries entering Friday, so barring any incidents will be fully intact for Saturday.
Chicago Bulls
A long six-game opposite-coast road trip didn’t exactly go as planned for the Bulls. They started out well defeating the Bucks, lost a close overtime battle to the Thunder then bounced back with an impressive win versus the Jazz in the tough Utah altitude.
But then they lost three in a row to the Suns, Warriors, and Kings to finish 2-4 on the trip.
After a few days of rest, Chicago got back in the win column with a focused effort against the Wizards. Captain DeMar DeRozan led the way with 27 points scoring 15 of those in the final frame adding seven rebounds, four assists, and a block.
Nikola Vucevic delivered a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds while Zach LaVine offered 25 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals but also six turnovers.
Chicago scores 111.7 points per game ranking 17th while they shoot 47.1% from the field and 35.6% from the perimeter ranking 13th and 16th respectively.
Defensively, they allow 112.8 points per game ranking 14th. Their opponents shoot 47.7% from the field and 37.3% from the perimeter ranking 23rd and 24th respectively.
Javonte Green is questionable for Saturday. Lonzo Ball (knee) remains out indefinitely.

Ultimately, I’m electing to take the more rested squad and the Bulls to cover.
