Oddsmakers aren’t expecting much from the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night, listing them as 9-point favorites in their visit to San Antonio. That’s what happens when you’re 6-19 on the road.
The Spurs don’t instill a ton of confidence to cover that number though, losers of two straight and recently falling out of the 8 seed in the West. San Antonio has also played two straight OT games.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The tough thing about Cleveland is that they’re not even keeping things close lately. In the last three games the Cavs have lost by 39 to Utah, 20 to Philadelphia, and 14 to the Heat.
Those are all good teams, but San Antonio isn’t bad in their own rights. One positive thing for the Cavs is that the Spurs are just 12-16 on their own court this season. Gregg Popovich’s team could also be a bit worn down after consecutive road tilts.
Monday night’s tilt could very well be a low scoring affair, as the betting total is just 216.5. The Cavs offense has been a bit derailed lately too, with a high score of 105 points in the last seven games.
If there’s ever going to be a breakout game for the Cleveland scorers though, it’s vs. this Spurs defense. San Antonio is 12th in defensive efficiency, but have allowed 130+ in three of the last four.
San Antonio Spurs
Part of the Spurs recent defensive woes on paper simply come from playing extra time, including double OT in a 134-129 loss to the Hawks. San Antonio followed that up with a 139-133 defeat to the Pacers.
Of course this doesn’t mean there’s not cause for concern. The 267 points allowed in the last two both came at home, and San Antonio is just 2-6 on their current stretch at the AT&T Center.
The 139 points allowed to Indiana also came when the Pacers were playing on 0 days rest. Five different Indiana players had at least 15 points in that contest as well. Luckily the Cavs don’t have anywhere near that sort of scoring versatility.
The Spurs also haven’t been able to get the wins despite great offensive performances from DeMar DeRozan. The veteran has 25+ points and 6+ assists in three straight, but San Antonio is just 1-2 over that span.

Free Cleveland Cavaliers vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Prediction:
This one is a battle of the bad, which is why you wonder why the Spurs are favored by so many points? Then again the fact that San Antonio, on a 2-6 home stretch, is favored by that much means it could very well be a blowout.
The Cavs are playing no offense right now, but San Antonio has also been spitting out some real duds on defense. Overall the Spurs defense has been good though, that’s not something you can say about Cleveland’s #30 scoring offense.
