Wednesday, November 9th, finds the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings playing the first of two scheduled contests. The Cavaliers will host the second meeting on December 9th.
Both teams last played on Monday with the Cavaliers losing 117-119 to the Clippers while Sacramento lost 113-116 versus the Warriors.
Last season, the squads played twice with the Cavaliers winning both contests. The Kings hold the all-time record having bested the Cavaliers in 62 of their 123 matches.
Cleveland Cavaliers
It was a close battle the Cavaliers lost to the Clippers but it raises questions regarding the Cavs’ opening schedule. They’ve been able to beat the Celtics twice but it required overtime in each instance.
On Monday, they weren’t as lucky losing in clutch time and that was to a Clippers squad who’ve struggled mightily and are missing their top player Kawhi Leonard.
That’s not to suggest the Cavaliers aren’t very, very good — rather it pinpoints they’ve had a relatively easy schedule filled primarily with tanking squads or middle-tier teams.
Case in point, isolating on the Cavs eight wins the teams other than the Celtics have a combined record of 23-42! Two are playing .500 ball (Bulls/Knicks) and the rest have a combined seven wins (Magic, Pistons, Lakers).
Defensively, the Cavaliers allow 105.4 points per game which rank third, while their opponents shoot 45 percent from the field and 35 percent from the perimeter ranking tied for seventh and 13th respectively.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Cavs are shooting 39.9% from deep which ranks second, and 47.8% from the field (6th) while scoring 116.3 points per game (6th).
Dylan Windler (ankle) and Ricky Rubio (knee) are out.
Sacramento Kings
The Kings gave their best on Monday but faced a Warriors squad equally desperate for a win. In the end, they lost by just three points and it took 47 points from Steph Curry plus a 37-25 final frame.
They’ll get another shot at the Warriors on Sunday who again will be motivated because they’ve yet to capture their first road win of the season. In between, they play this match and travel to LA to face another struggling club — the Lakers.
Kings’ foes score 116.8 points per match (25th) while shooting 49.7 percent from the field (28th) ranking only behind the Spurs and Rockets. Sacramento also struggles to stop opponents from scoring on the perimeter ranking in a tie for 27th (38.1%).
Offensively, Sacramento fares much better either in the top 10 or close to it in each of the three main categories. They score 114.7 points per game which ranks 10th best.
In terms of their efficiency, they shoot 47.2% from the field and 36.2% from the perimeter ranking 12th and 13th respectively.
Malik Monk (groin) is questionable for Wednesday.

Free Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
Given the evidence outlined above, the Kings fall into the category of opponents the Cavaliers typically feast on.
However, I’ll offer an alternative argument to consider… in the Kings’ last five games they’re 3-2 and the two losses were by three points. The wins came versus the Heat, Hornets, and Magic while the losses were to the Heat (second game), and Warriors.
Moreover, of the Kings’ six losses four were by five or fewer points (and another by seven). The 15-point loss to the Grizzlies was their worst.
If you buy into the rationale that the Heat and Warriors are better than their record and recognize the Kings are showcasing more consistency this season this isn’t a gimme for the Cavs.
Cleveland has been exciting to watch and their size could prove problematic for Sacramento — or the smaller, athletic Kings could pose issues for the Cavs in a similar vein as the Clippers (and Raptors) did.
All that devil’s advocate argument to say, unless the Kings run the Cavs off the 3-point line and bring a full 48-minute defensive effort the Cavs will win especially with a fresh loss as motivation.
