Winners of five out of the last six, the Cleveland Cavaliers head to the Target Center to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Minnesota, coming off an easy 28-point win over the Chicago Bulls, will look to defend home court against the best team in the Eastern Conference, but it’ll be no easy task.
After a rough January, the Cleveland Cavaliers have found their stride again and are playing some great basketball so far in February. Sitting at 5-1 so far in February, the Cavs will look to finish strong in these last couple of games before the All-Star Break.
Offensively, Cleveland is a powerhouse. The team averages 111 points per game and are, of course, led by superstar LeBron James. James is averaging 25.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game this season and he’s also shooting an impressive 53.3% from the field.
Point guard Kyrie Irving is having a career year for Cleveland, averaging 24.4 points and 5.9 assists per game. He’s shooting 46.6% from the field and 90% from the free throw line.
Unfortunately, the Cavaliers will be without their third option in Kevin Love. Love will sit out Tuesday’s game due to left knee soreness. With Love out, the Cavaliers lose a walking double-double. He is averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds per game this season.
Cleveland will look to overwhelm a young Minnesota team on the offensive end and find ways to generate shots from the perimeter even without Kevin Love.
You never want to see a season-ending injury like the one that guard Zach LaVine suffered recently. LaVine tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. He was having by far the best year of his career, taking that next step as a scorer and a leader.
LaVine was averaging 18.9 points on 46% shooting in 47 games for the Wolves this season. With him out, Minnesota loses an extremely athletic, quick guard that could shoot the ball.
Now, more scoring must fall on the shoulders of Karl Anthony-Towns. KAT is averaging 23.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. He’s also shooting 51.7% from the field. More of the offense will have to go through him now that that LaVine is out.
Forward Andrew Wiggins will have to do even more, as well. He’s having a great year, averaging 22.6 points per game on 46% shooting.
Look for Wiggins and Anthony-Towns to take more shots now that Zach LaVine is done for the year.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Minnesota is 2-6 ATS in the last eight games
- The TOTAL has gone OVER in five of Cleveland’s last six games
Free Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Prediction:
After a rough stretch in January, the Cavs have found their game again and are 5-1 so far in February. Against a young, rough Minnesota team, I like Cleveland to pull away early and get the W.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Cleveland -4.5
The Wolves have lost Zach LaVine, a 20-point scorer this season, and will definitely have a tough time keeping up with the scoring of Cleveland. I like Cleveland to cover the spread here.
