TRADE DEADLINE NOTE: We have no idea as of the writing of this post on Thursday how the Cavs Friday roster will look. Obviously the trade deadline has come and gone and so have half the Cavs roster. In are George Hill, Rodney Hood, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., gone are Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, Dwayne Wade, Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose. Stay tuned to our NBA news feed for more updates.
You’ve heard enough about the Cavaliers’ struggles. They played well on Wednesday night, though, beating the Timberwolves in overtime in a game that set the record for most three-pointers with 40 between the two teams.
LeBron James hit the game-winner on a fadeaway jumper to give Cleveland the 140–138 win in a game that had 31 lead changes before overtime.
It was an especially historic game for James, who not only notched a triple-double, but also became Cleveland’s all-time leading rebounder. He is one of three players in NBA history to be a franchise’s leading scorer, assister and rebounder.
The other two are Michael Jordan and Kevin Garnett, though there are two great young players in Minnesota who certainly have a shot at taking down any three of KG’s franchise records if they stick around for another contract or two.
Cleveland continues to show that it can still score a lot and beat good teams, just when we’re ready to give up on it. Dwyane Wade didn’t play the second night of a back-to-back but he’ll be back for this game in Atlanta.
Atlanta is no longer the worst team in the NBA. The Hawks wouldn’t even be in last-place in their own division if it weren’t for Orlando’s back-to-back wins.
ATL lost a close game in Boston, then won in New York and blew out Memphis in its last game. Dennis Schroder scored 22 to lead the team and John Collins recorded yet another double-double off the bench in the victory.
The Hawks’ offense has been particularly good over the last few weeks. Kent Bazemore has turned into an excellent three-point shooter and a deep bench has a bunch of young guys competing to catch Mike Budenholzer’s eye.
Keep a close eye on Mike Muscala. The fourth-year pro out of Bucknell is only scoring about six points per game but it’s on tremendous efficiency. The big man shoots over 52 percent from the field, including nearly 47 from three.
If Muscala continues to blend his inside-outside game with Schroder and the rest of the Hawks’ core, he could be a prolific scorer for years to come.

Free Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction: Atlanta wins at home.
I don’t see Cleveland stringing many stops together. This game should go into the 120s and Atlanta will probably win it.
