The Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls have both had their concerns so far this season. And yet, one of them remains a title contender while the other (spoiler alert…it’s the Bulls) have fallen further into the league’s basement.
Everybody knew this was going to be Year 1 of a complete overhaul for the Chicago Bulls. Once Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade were gone, there was no question that the team would be in the lottery come April.
All that said, even those who saw a dismal season on the horizon couldn’t have imagined how bad it would end up being, when just two days before the year began the two players involved in a battle for starting power forward (Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic) duked it out in practice, leaving the latter in the hospital (out indefinitely) and the former suspended.
Basically what we’re getting at is that this team was always going to be bad, but its start to the year has been atrocious. Entering its third game of the season, Chicago has already played two contenders in the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs and now has a date with a team that has been to three straight Finals.
Against Cleveland, Chicago needs to clamp down defensively. The Cavs’ offense should allow the Bulls—no matter how talent starved—to put up points.
Defensively, however, Cleveland has struggled. Look for guys like Justin Holiday and Lauri Markkanen to have strong performances despite the Bulls’ struggles.
The Cleveland Cavaliers enter this contest having made a major lineup change just the day prior.
On Monday, Dwyane Wade went to coach Lue and made it clear he believes he should come off the bench. This is a huge move for Wade considering he’s never been a reserve player throughout his Hall of Fame career, but it’s even bigger in the moment for the Cavs.
With Wade coming off the bench, it opens up an opportunity for J.R. Smith to once again find his stroke. The three-point marksman has struggled from deep this season, but there’s nothing like a confidence boost (as well as playing next to LeBron James) to find the touch.
It’s also going to help Wade. He should have an easier time getting his shot back against second units across the league, and just as importantly, he won’t have to worry about playing alongside Derrick Rose in the starting lineup—a player who also can’t spread the floor.
(Note that Rose has been ruled out for this game with an ankle injury, and is set to miss the team’s next game as well.)

Free Chicago Bulls vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Prediction
The Bulls are bad, and the Cavs, while struggling in certain areas, are not.
But the truth is that the 14.5-point spread is a bit much at this point in the process.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: CHI ATS
Expect the Cavs to win by a significant amount, but don’t be shocked if the Bulls manage to put up points in the process.
