Chicago’s seven-game winning streak is all over. The Bulls finally lost with Nikola Mirotic in the lineup and has to be one of the very few teams in history to stop a ten-game losing streak with a seven-game winning streak. Someone will have to check up on that.
The Bulls played Cleveland on Thursday night at the Q and were competitive the whole night. Cleveland outscored Chicago by two in the first quarter and one in the third. The two teams drew the second and fourth quarters. It took everything Cleveland had to extend its home winning streak to 12.
Lauri Markkanen scored 25 points on 18 possessions to lead the Bulls in scoring. Mirotic made three threes off the bench and finished with 15.
Right now, Hoiberg’s nine-man rotation of guys who all play at least 15 or so minutes a night is tight. And it’s working. The next big change is coming, though, and it’s when Zach LaVine returns from his torn knee that has had him out since the middle of last season.
Suddenly, the Bulls have too many bodies. LaVine will likely start, but that means sending either Justin Holiday or Denzel Valentine to the bench. Things are looking up in Chicago.
The Celtics, meanwhile, have dropped a couple of head-scratchers lately. They won two road games in between home losses against the Jazz and a depleted Miami Heat team. Then, they lost in New York Thursday on a night Kristaps Porzingis went 0-for-11 from the field.
Thursday night’s loss marks Boston’s first winless back-to-back. It’s also the first time the Celtics have lost two games in a row since their 0–2 start.
Boston is a well-oiled machine with Brad Stevens doing his thing. It allowed the C’s to come out of the gates strong against teams that weren’t so together right out of the gate. But now the comfortability is becoming more uniform across the league and talent is starting to win out. The Celtics still have a lot of that, but not as much as Cleveland and a lot closer to many other teams in the East that they are still looking down on.

Free Chicago Bulls vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction: Boston wins, but it isn’t easy.
I picked Boston to cover a number that looked a little funny against both the Jazz and Heat. Turns out, Vegas knew something. I have this game as Boston -6 ish so keep an eye on the number when it’s available for any funny business. If it seems like a number trying to attract attention to one side, do the opposite.
