Charlotte Hornets
After victories over Detroit, Toronto, and Sacramento at home to begin the second half of the season, Charlotte has dropped three consecutive road games against stiffer competition.
The Hornets have lost at Denver and Los Angeles to both the Lakers and Clippers, all by double-digits.
Miles Bridges matched the Clippers’ Paul George as the game’s high-scorer with 21 points but LA ran away with a 27-point victory.
Seven Clippers finished in double-figures and the team committed just nine turnovers to Charlotte’s 14. The Hornets made just 31-of-80 from the field as a team.
Both LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier left the game against the Clippers with injuries and did not return.
Ball’s wrist injury does not appear serious and he’s been listed as probable for Monday.
The situation with Rozier’s hip is less clear and his status has not been reported for this one.
Cody Zeller missed the game completely with a shoulder injury and will make it two in a row with this one because he’s been listed as out.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have played just one home game in their first seven since resuming play following the All-Star Break.
They have gone 4–3, however, and can look forward to a long home stand that will last the next nine games, up until April 7.
San Antonio did lose the last time out in Milwaukee, 120–113. Lonnie Walker led all scorers and set a new career-high with 31 points in defeat. Giannis Antetokounmpo dropped 15 dimes to match his career-best.
The Spurs have been predictable in the first two weeks since the break, winning against the lesser opponents and losing to the better ones.
They have defeated Orlando, Chicago, Cleveland, and Detroit. They have lost to Dallas, Philadelphia, and Milwaukee.
San Antonio won in Charlotte by a dozen points earlier this season. That game was on Valentine’s Day. Terry Rozier led all scorers with 33 but both Derrick White and Dejounte Murray combined for 51 for the Spurs.
