The Charlotte Hornets make a trip North to face the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Hornets are 5-4 through their first nine games of the season, while the new look Timberwolves are starting to gel.
They are 4-3 through their first seven games of the year. This East vs. West Conference matchup will feature some of the best young talent in the NBA.
Last year, the Hornets and Timberwolves faced each other twice. The teams split the series 1-1. Minnesota won on the road in overtime 120-115 and Charlotte won on the road 115-108. This years matchup should be close like previous two matchups.
Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets are off to a solid start. Currently one game over .500 in seven games played this year, the Hornets are averaging 105 points per game this season.
They are doing so without Nicholas Batum, who is a former star from Portland. If he can get healthy, the Hornets will be one of the top offensive teams in the East.

Besides Batum being out for an extended period, rookie Malik Monk has played well off the bench. The first year guard is averaging nine points so far for Charlotte this season. Dwayne Bacon (rookie) has also given Jordan’s crew some solid play.Bacon started four games and is averaging over six points and five rebounds this year.
Frank Kaminsky might be the most improved player on the Hornets roster. Kaminsky is giving the Hornets 27 minutes off the bench, averaging 12 points and five rebounds per game this year. His improved play has shown to be huge for the Charlotte bench this year.

Defensively, the Hornets are allowing over 104 points per game this year. Good enough for 13th in the NBA this season. Once Nick Batum can return, he should help the defense around the rim. The Hornets rank first in the league in rebounds per game. Averaging a little over 49 rebounds per game this year.
If the Hornets are going to win this game, its going to start on the defensive side of the ball.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves are one of the most young and talented teams in the Western Conference this year. If Minnesota were in the East, they would be challenging for a top three seed, but since they are in the Western Conference, Minnesota might not make the playoffs.
Minnesota has won three games in a row. Most recently defeating the New Orleans Pelicans, 104-98. Despite the win, Minnesota big man Karl Anthony Towns played terrible.
He had two points on one made field goal from the floor.

The Timberwolves could be dangerous in the West this year. With the addition of Jimmy Butler and emergence of Andrew Wiggans as a star in the NBA, Minnesota could really make some noise down the stretch of the season. Only if they stay healthy.

Free Charlotte Hornets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Prediction:
Charlotte is 1-3 on the road this year. Expect the Hornets to play a hard fought game, but if they are without Frank Kaminsky, and Michael Kidd-Gilcrest, Charlotte could have troubles stopping the talented T-Wolves.
Minnesota looks to be figuring out how to play together. Winners of three in a row, including wins over the Thunder, Heat and Pelicans (mentioned earlier) Minnesota should feel confident at home.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Timberwolves -5.5
Expect this this matchup to be close throughout, but the Timberwolves will prevail at home. Take Minnesota to cover for the win.
