Friday, November 3 finds a struggle Eastern Conference team and a Rising Western Conference team entering their Third week of play in the 2017-18 regular season for the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers. The Brooklyn Nets have lost three straight games as they now start a four game road trip.
Last season, the squads played two times with the teams splitting. Los Angeles has won the past 3 of the past four games in this matchup. The Lakers hold the all-time record against the Nets with a 62-23 record.
The Brooklyn Nets wiped out an 18-point third-quarter deficit against the Phoenix Suns, only to have the Suns turn the tables with a comeback of their own in handing the Nets a 122-114 loss at Barclays Center Tuesday night.
With the Nets up 106-98 with under seven minutes remaining, the Suns staged an 18-2 run to regain control of a game they had seemed to let slip away. After Phoenix scored nine straight points to reclaim the lead, 107-106, Caris LeVert answered to give Brooklyn its final lead at 108-107.
LeVert’s basket was the only one for the Nets in a stretch of nearly five minutes. Phoenix followed with another nine straight, capped by Dragan Bender’s 3-pointer for a 116-108 lead with 2:03 to go.
D’Angelo Russell led all scorers with 33 points, his season high and the most by a Net this season. The third-year guard scored 20 of Brooklyn’s 53 first-half points. He finished the game shooting 11-of-21 from the field and 9-of-11 from the line, with six rebounds and four assists.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson notched a career-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-16 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line while grabbing seven rebounds Through eight games, Hollis-Jefferson is averaging 15.0 points and shooting 51 percent from the field and 85 percent from the line.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are a team that has plenty of young talent, but their problem this year may be that they are too young.
They are playing PDX right now as of presstime but they come in off a very nice 113-93 home win over the Detroit Pistons and they have now gone 2-3 at home, while out on the road they are 1-1. Seven players scored in double figures in the win over the Pistons, with Julius Randle leading the way with 17 points, while Kyle Kuzma was 2nd with 16 and Larry Nance Jr was 3rd with 14.
Balanced scoring is nothing new to the Lakers this year as their top eight scorers all average from 10.4 ppg to 14.7 ppg. Jordan Clarkson leads the team in scoring with 14.7 ppg, while Brandon Ingram is 2nd at 14.0 ppg and Kyle Kuzma is 3rd at 14.0 ppg.
Lonzo Ball was their top pick in the draft this past year and he has averaged just 10.4 ppg so far, but he leads them in assists with 7.0 apg and is 2nd on the team in rebounding with 7.3 rpg.
He is just getting started in his career, so the points will come, but for now, he is trying to do his all-around part to help the team win. In the win over the Piston, the Lakers shot 49.5% from the field, while allowing the Pistons to hit just 43.6% of their shots and they outrebounded them 53-44.

The Los Angeles defense is not great, but they played very well in their last game and should carry some of that momentum to this game. However Los Angeles has yet to be consistent this year.
