The Nets lost by a baker’s dozen in San Antonio and then got beat pretty bad the next day in New Orleans when they were a little rundown and Rajon Rondo dished out 25 assists.
I wouldn’t be discouraged if I were Kenny Atkinson. Brooklyn bounced back on Friday night and slaughtered the Heat in Miami. Joe Harris dropped 21 off the bench. He led the team in scoring, made all four of his threes and was one of seven Nets in double-figures.
Jahlil Okafor didn’t play, once again, but Nik Stauskas, who was the throw-in has played since arriving in Brooklyn and he’s been pretty good in the little playing time. He went 1-for-2 from three against the Heat and 7-out-of-10 in the loss against the Pelicans. In fact, he’s shooting well over 50 percent from out there since arriving in Brooklyn. He said that he feels freer in Atkinson’s offense to shoot off the dribble, which he does better than shooting off the catch. The Nets might have caught lightning in a bottle with a guy who was drafted eighth overall once upon a time.
The Nets are in the middle of a tough stretch but they’ve been playing hard and much more disciplined this season than they did last season under Atkinson. There’s a lot to like about this continuing to be a team that covers a lot of games going forward into 2018.
The Celtics have bounced back after losing three out of four with back-to-back wins. They beat the Hornets in Charlotte by 11 when they were just a one-point favorite. Then there was the Houston game on Thursday when James Harden ridiculously blew the game for Houston with back-to-back offensive fouls in the last 30 second that gave Boston the win.
Jaylen Brown didn’t play on Thursday but it sounded like there was a decent chance he could have played, so perhaps he’ll return for this game. This is the point in the season when you start to realize which teams are playing hard to stay atop the standings and which teams can just sort of coast.
The best teams are in cruise control now and will start to peak around April, into the playoffs. Over the last couple seasons, Boston has peaked around this time. This team feels a little different but it also feels like it plays harder than a team like Cleveland, or San Antonio, or Golden State. For that reason, I’m not sure the Celtics will be able to beat any of those teams in a playoff series, regardless of how many games they win in the regular season.

Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction: the Celtics win, the Nets cover.
It’s a tall task to ask Brooklyn to win this game, but they’re a safe pick to cover lately and the Celtics aren’t all there, playing their best. I like Brooklyn to hang around until the end.
