Wednesday, December 7th, the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks play in the second of four meetings this season. Atlanta will host on January 20th and February 15th. The November 2nd contest was won 112-99 by the Hawks.
The Hawks last played Monday losing 114-121 to the Thunder while the Knicks played Sunday defeating the Cavaliers 81-92.

Whether you side with Nate McMillan or Trae Young on how the situation was handled this past weekend, the reality is Young elected to not show up.
I couldn’t help but recall an article in late September from ESPN focusing on the coach and superstar working to improve their communication and Young’s leadership role.
“I’ve always been a leader by example,” he said. “I’m still learning how to be a leader vocally.”
He was clearly out of sync on Monday coughing up the ball, making odd choices, and seemingly being defiant about what his coach was hoping for which was better ball distribution.
He remains an enigma – tossing himself into players and wrapping his appendages into opponents to bait refs for the whistle which is frustrating to watch and even more frustrating when the refs fall for it.
On Monday he scored 23 points (10 came from the charity stripe) while shooting 6 of 19 and 1 of 7 from deep with four turnovers.
I’ve harped on it all season – the fact he requested more help from management but isn’t adapting to get the best out of that help is again — frustrating.
KAT used to be the player I cited as the most thirsty NBA player but Young long surpassed him. He covets the spotlight and fame on and off the court. This recent action only serves to paint him as a prima donna who believes HE is the Hawks so they should adapt to him.
The sign of a great leader is one who’ll sacrifice themselves to improve those around him and frankly that’s the last thing I suspect he’s willing to do. His choice to not show up for his team Friday punctuated that point!
Atlanta ranks 13th in scoring averaging 114.0 points per game, 18th from the field shooting 46.5%, and 27th from the perimeter: 32.7%.
On defense, opponents score 113.6 points (17th), 46.7% field goal percentage (15th), and 33.0% perimeter percentage (3rd).
Trent Forrest (concussion) is out. John Collins (ankle), and De’Andre Hunter (thigh) are out indefinitely.
New York Knicks
Bit of a roller coaster weekend for the Knicks who got pummeled by Luka Doncic and the Mavericks suggesting the Knicks’ struggles to win at home outweigh the Mavs’ road struggles.
Then they turned around and delivered an absolute showcase on defense limiting the Cavaliers to their lowest point output of the season in an impressive victory.

Offensively, the Knicks score 113.6 points per game (14th). New York shoots 45.4% from the field ranking 24th and 31.3% from the perimeter plummeting them to the basement with the 30th rank.
Defensively, the Knicks allow opponents to score 115.0 points per game (19th). New York allows their opponents to shoot 45.1% from the field and 35.1% from the perimeter ranking 11th and sixth respectively.
Ryan Arcidiacono (ankle) is questionable for Sunday.

The question is whether the Knicks will be ready for him this time and whether Young’s teammates will be as willing to just play the supporting role for his one-man show.
While the Knicks have ample motivation they’ve only strung together consecutive wins twice (Games 2-4, and Jazz/Nuggets on road) which isn’t a lot to draw from. I’m going to roll the dice they’ll make this the third occasion.
