2015-16 NBA Previews – Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks were a huge surprise a year ago. Even though they lost their prize rookie they were solid all season long and made the playoffs. Now the question is whether they can continue their ascension in the East after a major free agent signing in the offseason. In the East there is room to grow.
Milwaukee Bucks Season Preview
Head Coach: Jason Kidd
2014 Record: 40-42
Raptors Odds to NBA Title: +6600
Raptors Odds to Win Conference: +2500
The Bucks are one of the biggest wild cards in the Eastern Conference. They should be better than they were a year ago but their success came so quickly that a slide wouldn’t be a surprise either.
Milwaukee is a strong defensive team thanks to the long limbs and athletic abilities of guys like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Michael Carter-Williams. They should be even better defensively with the addition of Greg Monroe, another long active body.
With the addition of Monroe they now have a strong active duo up front at the center position. Monroe will get most of the time but Miles Plumlee can be a presence as well.
Last year in limited action Jabari Parker showed that he is ready for the NBA. I thought he would be too much of a tweener at the PF slot but he fit in nicely before he got hurt.
They need him to be even more of a force this season because this team will struggle to score some nights.
Wing Khris Middleton has really developed while in the league. As the secondary option to Parker he can continue to develop but he was miscast as a primary scorer last season. They just had no other options.
This is still a team that is going to struggle with outside shooting. They did draft SG Rashad Vaughn but unless he is the second coming of Ray Allen that part of their game needs work, especially with the way the NBA is going.
Also, all of their key players are still kind of works in progress.
I am not expecting any of them to fall off the map bu there are no real sure things on this team right now. Everyone is still improving their game and there are some high ceilings but no absolutes. This is a very young team across the board.
The Bucks have great potential but things could go the other way too.
Bucks 2015 Betting Prediction:
No matter what happens in terms of wins and losses the Bucks should once again be a strong defensive team so always look closely at those totals, especially unders – they will defend but scoring will be a challenge.
I am not expecting too much improvement in the win department as they play in one of the more competitive divisions with Cleveland and Chicago. This is still a very young team and I am not always fond of their coach Jason Kidd.
They should be a tempting underdog throughout the year because the defense always shows and on some nights the shots will fall. Don’t forget about the bucks but don’t get too excited either.
Bucks Key Personnel Losses:
- PF Eryan Ilyasova
- C Zaza Pachulia
- SF Jared Dudley
No big losses here as these veterans are all the kinds of players you work past as a team improves. In the short term their shooting becomes even more limited though without Dudley and Ilyasova.
Bucks Top Newcomers:
- C Greg Monroe
- PG Greivis Vasquez
- SG Chris Copeland
The key here is Monroe, who surprised by landing in Milwaukee. He gives them exactly what they need down low. Also, don’t be surprised if Vasquez winds up starting and playing in crunch time. He knows how to lead a team.
- G Reshad Vaughn
Vaughan could very well be one of the more important rookies in the league. If he can shoot it well this team gets a lot more dynamic in a hurry.
