Wyoming had a nice bounce back win a week ago, beating a good Hawaii team 31-7 at home as +2.5 underdogs. The Cowboys now must go on the road for the 2nd time this season in a bit Friday night MWC tilt.
Colorado State struggled in their season opener a week ago, getting destroyed at Fresno State 38-17 in game many though the Rams could have won as -2.5 road favorites.
The Cowboys are now after their 37-34 OT loss at Nevada two weeks ago in the season opener. The Cowboys were lit up for 420 yards and 4 TD by Wolpack QB Carson Strong to start the year.
After getting torched by Nevada in the opener, Wyoming looked like they could be in trouble against Hawaii. The Cowboys held the Rainbow Warriors to 123 yards rushing and just 110 passing in last week’s 24-point win however.
The Cowboys offense was OK in the opener as Xazavian Valladay compiled 87 yards on the ground and Isaiah Neyor added 100+ yards in the air. Valladay powered Wyoming last week though with 163 yards rushing and 2 TD.
Coach Craig Bohl is ready to face a CSU team that gave up 38 points to Fresno State last week. The Rams looked especially vulnerable through the air as Bulldogs QB Jake Haener had 311 yards and 3 TD.
Colorado State Rams
Who Colorado State goes with on Thursday night is somewhat of a mystery. New coach Steve Addazzio decided to go with Todd Centeio last week instead of incumbent starter Patrick O’Brien.
Centeio is more of a running QB, so it made since that the Rams went with a more diverse playmaker especially with a couple skill position players being on the COVID list last week. O’Briend did play though, going 7/10 for 82 yards and a TD.
Centeio was the Rams leading rusher last week, with 80 yards on 13 carries. That puts Addazzio in a predicament if he decides to go with the more experienced O’Brien.
The Rams did hold Fresno State to 84 yards rushing last week and on a bevy of carries (43). That will come in handy against a Wyoming team that will want to run the ball after last week’s success on the ground.
