BYU opened the 2022 season with big aspirations and a pair of victories. The Cougars traveled to Tampa and dominated USF in Week 1, before earning big time win over number-nine ranked Baylor in their home opener. It took double overtime, but he Cougs were able to earn a signature win and they had a chance to double up the following weekend at the Zoo, and creep into the top ten.
Last weekend, BYU lost to Oregon in Eugene, 41-20, crushing their CFB Playoff dreams and dropping their first spread of the season.
Jaren Hall has improved shown big improvements at the quarterback position. Despite the final result, the junior QB threw for a season-high 305 passing yards and two touchdowns. With tough home tests like Notre Dame and Arkansas set at the beginning of next month, look for Hall to keep things going over this two-game relaxed stretch.
Hall has thrown for 827 yards with five touchdowns to one interception, while rushing for 64 through the first three games.
Christopher Brooks has received the first crack at replacing record-breaking back Tyler Allgeier, and he delivered in Week 1, rushing for 135 yards and a touchdown in the win over USF. The Cal transfer has struggled since, but this game represents a opportunity to bounce back.
BYU impressively defeated Baylor without both of their top two receivers in Puka Nacua and Gunner Romney, which lead to a breakout performance from Chase Roberts. The freshman wideout caught eight passes for 122 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown against the Bears, and he’s slowly turning into Hall’s best wideout.
