The rumor is that freshman QB Jayden de Laura will get the start on Saturday. He is from Hawaii and was the top recruit this season. How ready he is given everything is up for debate though.
The defense gave up 31ppg last season. Jahad Woods is a tackling machine at LB, 141 last year. If the Cougs exceed expectations it will be because of this group.
Oregon State Beavers
Jonathan Smith seems to have the Beavers pointed in the right direction. Now the challenge is keeping the momentum going with personnel losses and a crazy offseason.
The first task is replacing Jake Luton at QB. Luton was awesome last year and will be making an NFL start this week. Tristan Gebbia has limited experience but is a junior so let’s see what he can do.
Oregon State was fourth in the PAC 12 in rushing last season. Jermar Jefferson split the lead back role last year but it is all his now. They will need to be able to run the ball.
The defense has six starters returning, none more important than Hamilcar Rashed Jr. He is a menace that led the nation in tackles for a loss last season and had 14 sacks. The defense may have to lead early in the season.
