The Wagner Seahawks will travel and take on the Syracuse Orange from the Carrier Dome this Saturday. Syracuse will open as the 49-point favorites, with the total opening at 61.5.
Wagner Seahawks
Wagner was competitive in their season opening lost to in-state foe Fordham, and they managed to cover the 27-point spread at home. The Seahawks haven’t been able to make use of their other to generous underdog spreads, failing to the cover a 48-point margin in a loss to Rutgers, and dropping the ball on the 17-point spread in Week 3 against St. Francis.
Nick Kargman thhrew for a career-high 218 yards in their home opener, but naturally had a hard time against Rutgers. He should endure many of the same struggles here, but as he’s proven over the first three games, he’s capable of leading the one drive that can contribute to the total

Rickey Spruill leads the team in rushing (116), after a pair of 50-yard performances. Junior wideout Naiem Simmons is on-pace to surpass last year’s total, and he had a big game against Fordham, going for a career-high 162 yards.
Syracuse Orange
Yes Syracuse football is off to a meaningful start as well!!
With all of the success in Lawrence with the Jayhawks, a fellow prominent hoops program deserves some love for their hot start as well. Syracuse stifled Malik Cunningham and Louisville in their season opener, before traveling to Hartford and blowing out longtime Big East foe Connecticut by 34. The Orange then picked up a late-win over Purdue in Week 3, then returned to ACC play on a short week.
In Week 4, Syracuse defeated Virginia at home, 22-20, behind a five field goal effort from veteran kicker Andre Szmyt.
Garrett Shrader looks good behind center for Cuse early. Shrader has hurt opponents with his arm and legs, and he’s got all-ACC potential. Shrader totaled 320 yards (236 pass, 94 rush), before scoring five touchdowns in the win over UConn. The junior QB then followed it up with a three-touchdown performance against Purdue.
Shrader has thrown for 986 passing yards with eight touchdowns to one interception through the month of September, while also rushing for 212 yards and four scores.
Sean Tucker had a monster freshman season for Syracuse last season, going for 1,496 rushing yards and 12 scores, and he’s on-pace to do so again. Tucker gained 184 yards from scrimmage (100 rush, 84 rec) against Louisville, then rushed for 112 yards in the win over UConn.
Tucker brings versatility, and he’s rushed for 314 yards and caught 17 passes for 169 receiving yards through the first four games.
Orondo Gadsen II’s rapport with Shrader has been impressive early. After scoring in his first career start versus Louisville, the sophomore wideout had big games in victories over Purdue and Virginia. Gadsen II racked up 112 yards and caught the game-winning touchdown against the Boilermakers, and he went for seven catches and 107 yards versus UVA last weekend.
