It would be nicer if these teams were higher in the rankings but there is a lot at stake in this one.
In addition to statewide bragging rights the winner will win the Coastal Division and the right to get hammered by Clemson in the ACC title game.

Virginia has not lost at home this season but they have underperformed to my expectations. This would be a nice win for the program though.
Virginia Tech Hokies
I am not sure how good the Hokies really are but there is no doubt they are playing well right now. They have won six of their last seven with the only loss being by a point at Notre Dame.
The quality of opponents could have something to do with it but they have not given up a point in their last two games. Bud Foster is going out in style it seems.
Offensively they are just Ok so they are going to have to lean on the defense again in this one. Hendon Hooker has taken the job and run with it since week 6. No interceptions this season.
Normally when Tech is good they are running the ball more. That is not a strength this season but they are pretty balanced.

VT has owned UVA winning every year since 2003. They have covered in 7 of the last 10 too.
Virginia Cavaliers
After a rough stretch in the middle of the season, the Cavaliers have won their last three games. It is not going to be the breakthrough year I had envisioned but a win here and a win in a bowl game would give them 10. That hasn’t happened since 1989.
Bryce Perkins has put up nice numbers this season but just hasn’t been dynamic or risen to the occasion as much. So much for a sleeper Heisman season.
The UVA defense is solid, giving up just 22ppg. Assuming they are disciplined and not caught up in a rivalry moment they should perform well.
This season can be a big win if the Cavaliers can beat the Hokies in this spot. Not only would it break a long streak but it would put them in the title game. That would be a first for the program. I like the coach to figure it out this time around.
