Armstrong was sacked a season-high six times in the loss to Louisville, despite tossing for a season-high 313 yards. That was weekly for the star QB last season, and things could rough again in Atlanta for Armstrong.
Armstong is up to 1,363 passing yards with five touchdowns to seven interceptions on the season.
Perris Jones has received the majority of the work early, but it’s been slim pickings. The senior back from Alexandria gained 118 yards in the win over Richmond, and he’s been contained since the start of ACC play, aside from a 87-yard performance versus Syracuse. Jones leads UVA with 320 rushing yards.
UVA had one of the best wideout cores in the country last season, but they’ve been limited outside of the Air Raid this season. Swiss-army knife Keytaon Thompson led the team in catches last season, and he’s on pace to do so again with a team-lead 41 receptions and 449 receiving yards. Dontayvion Wicks recorded a 1200-yard season in 2022, and he’s got 25 catches for 317 yards thus far.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
An uninspiring start led to a coaching change for Georgia Tech. Losses to Clemson, Ole Miss and UCF led to Brent Key becoming the lead man, and a turn of the page for the program. The Yellow Jackets went out in Week 5, and admirably picked up a massive 21-point victory over Pitt. Last time out, the Yellow Jackets built on that victory in Atlanta.
In Week 6, Georgia Tech (+3.5) defeated Duke, 23-20, coming through as underdogs once again.
Georgia Tech scores 17.3 points per game, while allowing 28.1 ppg.
Jeff Sims had endured the up and downs of the program this season. The sophomore quarterback brings over two years of experience to the lineup, and his effort versus Pitt could be a sign of things to come. Sims followed up that performance by tossing for 227 yards and two scores, and rushing for 95 more yards in the win over Duke.
Sims has thrown for 1,068 passing yards with five touchdowns to two interceptions, with 301 rushing yards and a score.
Hassan Hall broke out with a huge game versus the Panthers. The Louisville transfer gashed Pitt for a career-high 157 yards, and he should have the lead role going forward. Hall leads the team with 330 rushing yards, while Dontae Smith has complimented with 208 yards and a team-lead three touchdowns.
Slot man Nate McCollum leads GT with 29 receptions and 283 yards.
