Roadrunners vs. Longhorns Gameday
UTSA makes the short trip to Austin Saturday night for a Week 3 meeting with No. 1 Texas at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:00 PM ET on SEC Network+.
The Roadrunners are 2-0 after beating UTRGV 45-16 and Texas State 31-26. UTSA has already won once on the road, but San Marcos and a Saturday night visit to the nation’s top-ranked team aren’t exactly the same business trip.
UTSA has handled September nicely; Austin is where the difficulty slider gets shoved all the way over.
Texas is also 2-0 after crushing Texas State 59-7 and pulling off a wild 24-23 comeback against Ohio State. The Longhorns trailed 23-3 before closing the game with three consecutive touchdown drives.
That’s one way to earn the No. 1 ranking.
Texas has won both previous meetings with UTSA, including a 56-7 beating in Austin in 2024. The Longhorns also won 41-20 in 2022, so the Roadrunners are still looking for their first victory in the series.

It’s Week 3, UTSA Roadrunners vs. Texas Longhorns, with two unbeaten Texas programs bringing considerably different expectations into Saturday night.
UTSA Roadrunners vs. Texas Longhorns Odds & Last 5
Texas is laying around 30.5 points at home, with UTSA getting better than four touchdowns. The total sits at 58.5, while the Longhorns are enormous moneyline favorites.
Thirty and a hook isn’t exactly a subtle opinion.
UTSA has covered plenty of ground offensively through two games, scoring 76 points and producing more than 450 yards per game. The Roadrunners also proved they could win away from the Alamodome by rallying past Texas State last Saturday.
Texas took a considerably more dramatic route to 2-0. The Longhorns followed their 52-point win over Texas State by erasing a 20-point deficit against Ohio State and scoring 21 unanswered points to close the game.
Now comes the potential hangover spot.
Longhorns Stats
Texas has scored 83 points through two games while allowing only 30. The Longhorns’ offensive numbers aren’t as cartoonish as the Texas State score suggests, but they showed against Ohio State that they can sustain drives when the easy plays disappear.
Arch Manning has thrown for 500 yards and five touchdowns through two games. He’s also thrown two interceptions, giving Texas a little cleanup work despite the perfect record.
Hollywood Smothers has provided the ground-game punch.
Smothers has rushed for 144 yards and scored twice, with both touchdowns coming against Ohio State. He carried 21 times for 74 yards in that comeback while Raleek Brown added 54 yards on 10 attempts.
Texas spent three quarters flirting with disaster against Ohio State, then apparently remembered it was ranked No. 1.
The defense has allowed 15 points per game. Texas State managed only seven, while Ohio State needed nearly three quarters to build its 23-point lead before the Longhorns shut the door.
That defense is a different animal than anything UTSA has seen yet.
Roadrunners Stats
UTSA has scored 76 points through two games behind a balanced offense. The Roadrunners have thrown for 533 yards and rushed for 393, giving Jeff Traylor several ways to move the football.
Owen McCown remains the centerpiece.
McCown has thrown for 489 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. He opened the season by completing 22 of 27 passes for 275 yards and three scores against UTRGV before helping UTSA escape San Marcos with its second win.
The running game has helped keep defenses honest.
Will Henderson III leads UTSA with 181 rushing yards, while A’Marion Peterson has added 100 yards and two touchdowns. DJ Allen Jr. has 140 receiving yards, with AJ Wilson and Mekhi Anderson also clearing 120.
UTSA has forced four interceptions through two games.
That’s useful against a quarterback who has already thrown two picks, but getting Manning into mistakes while also containing Texas’ running game is considerably easier on the whiteboard than inside DKR.

Arch Manning enters Saturday with 500 passing yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions through two games. His numbers against Ohio State were modest for much of the night, but he was at his best when Texas had no room left for another mistake.
Manning helped engineer three straight touchdown drives to finish the comeback.

Owen McCown has been cleaner statistically, throwing for 489 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. He’s also an experienced starter in Jeff Traylor’s offense, so UTSA isn’t sending a wide-eyed quarterback into Austin hoping he remembers the playbook.
The problem is everything surrounding him.
McCown hasn’t faced a defense with Texas’ speed or depth this season. UTSA needs him protecting the football, avoiding obvious passing downs and keeping the Longhorns’ offense parked for stretches.
Karle Lacey Jr. has handled the limited backup work behind Manning. UTSA hasn’t needed Kannon Williams to throw a pass through its first two games.
Roadrunners vs. Longhorns bottom line: Texas can name the score if this gets loose early, but 58.5 still needs UTSA to buy a decent-sized piece of the scoreboard before Sarkisian starts handing out fourth-quarter cameos.

Texas has allowed 30 points through two games, but 23 came against Ohio State. The Longhorns held Texas State to seven and now get a UTSA offense making a massive jump in defensive competition.
That jump matters more than UTSA’s 76 points through two games.
Texas can score plenty here without needing to spend all night trying to break the scoreboard.
Owen McCown has been sharp, throwing four touchdowns without an interception, but Texas can pressure him without selling out. Long drives are going to be expensive real estate for the Roadrunners.
Arch Manning and Texas could threaten 45 on their own. I don’t need UTSA to stop the Longhorns all night; I need Steve Sarkisian to eventually decide a four-score lead is plenty and start emptying the bench.
That’s where this number gets interesting.
Texas has Tennessee waiting next week, so there isn’t much incentive to turn the fourth quarter into a personal grudge against UTSA. If the Roadrunners land somewhere around 10-to-14 points, Texas can win comfortably without pushing this into the 60s.
