The stage will be set for a Pac-12 classic at The Zoo this weekend. College Gameday will be attendance when the Oregon Ducks host the UCLA Bruins for one of their more anticipated matchups ever. The Chip Kelly regime is fully underway in Pasadena, and he will bring an undefeated squad into a familiar venue, in what could be a turning point for the program. Oregon opens as the five-point favorites, with the total opening at 69.5
HISTORY: The UCLA/Oregon rivalry dates back to 1928, and this will mark one of the biggest matchups in series history. UCLA holds a 38-31 all-time series lead, but Oregon has won each of the last three meetings.

It’s been a while since UCLA football has looked this good.
Chip Kelly will head back into his original Pac-12 stomping grounds with playoff aspirations on his mind. The Bruins propelled onto the playoff radar prior to their bye week, and a third victory over a top-15 school would certainly bring even more of a buzz to Los Angeles. The Bruins breezed through non-conference play, and after picking up a signature win over Washington on the final day of September, they kept the party going in Pasadena.
In Week 6, UCLA (+3) defeated Utah, 42-32, picking up their second underdog victory in a row.
UCLA scores 41.5 points per game, while allowing 22.6 ppg.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson has been around for a very long time, and the four-year starter is having his best season yet. The fifth-year quarterback gave a Heisman performance of his own versus Utah, passing for 300 yards and scoring five touchdowns against one of the best defenses in the nation. DTR is special, and he’s built to guide the Bruins to a victory.
Thompson-Robinson has thrown for 1,510 passing yards with 15 touchdowns to two interceptions, and rushed for 231 yards and four more scores through six starts.
Zach Charbonnet has been huge again for the Bruins this season. The running back returned for his senior season after rushing for 1,137 yards last season, and he’s on pace to surpass that number here in 2022. Charbonnet has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in four of five games this season, including a career-high 198 yards.
Charbonnet is among Pac-12 leaders with 615 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the season.
Jake Bobo made one of his best decisions ever, transferring over from Duke into a winning situation here in Pasadena. Bobo has 24 catches and leads the team with 385 yards after scoring twice in each of the passed two games. Kazmeir Allen leads UCLA with 28 receptions.
Oregon Ducks
Oregon hasn’t let a Week 1 one beatdown from Georgia alter the direction of their season. The Ducks have ripped off five straight wins, defeating Cougars BYU and Washington State, before taking care of Stanford on the first of October. Last time out, the Ducks cruised to their third straight Pac-12 victory.
In Week 8, Oregon defeated Arizona 49-22, improving to 4-2 against the spread this season.
Oregon scored 42.2 point per game, while allowing 28.8 ppg.
It also feels like Bo Nix has been around forever, and that exact experience will come in handy this weekend. With all of the buzz surrounding Kelly returning with an undefeated team, Nix has a chance to nix all of that, literally. The fifth-year senior has really picked things up since the season opening loss to Georgia. Nix threw for a career-best five touchdowns the following weekend in a win over Eastern Washington, and he passed for a career-high 428 yards in the comeback win over Wazzu.
Nix has thrown for 1,526 passing yards, with 12 touchdowns to two interceptions, while adding 331 yards on the ground and eight scores through six games.
Bucky Irving has come in and eased the loss of Travis Dye to USC. The Minnesota transfer has been steady, gaining 97 yards or more in each of the past four games and leading the Ducks with 429 yards rushing. Noah Whittington has complimented him with 336 yards on 52 carries.
Sophomores Troy Franklin and Dont’e Thornton give Nix a pair of physical receivers on the outside. Franklin caught a career-high 10 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown against EWU, and recorded 137 yards in the win over Washington State. Franklin leads the team in receptions (27) and receiving yards (429).

Two of the most experienced quarterbacks in the nation will go toe-to-toe at the Zoo this weekend, and that only adds even more spice to this bout. Both have been pretty good this season, but Dorian Thompson-Robinson feels like the guy to trust here. He’s been really effective this season, and his performance against Utah was Heisman worthy. This will give the Ducks their toughest test of the season from a defensive standpoint, and this one should come down to the wire.
