It was Toledo’s division to lose last season and that is exactly what they did. A loss to Western Michigan in the final week of the season knocked them out of the MAC Championship Game.
Do they have what it takes to set themselves up for another MAC Title chance?
Toledo Rockets Predictions: Team Strengths
Stepping Into A Good Situation
So many good things come with the Rockets hiring from within. First off, Candle obviously knows the entire offense, being the offensive coordinator last season.
The Rockets have a pair of ALL-MAC running backs that has proven to a giant threat.

Kareem Hunt battled injuries all throughout the season last year, but prior to that he has shown how good he is. Two seasons ago Hunt compiled 1631 yards and averaged 8.0 yards per carry.
He’ll work along side Terry Swanson, who missed time last year with injuries himself, but nearly got to the 1000 yard mark.
Obviously these two need to stay healthy, but they have shown that they can really cause havoc on opposing defenses.
Back and 100%
Last season Logan Woodside was put as the backup on the depth chart. In the season prior to that he went 8-2 as a starter and showed that he fit in very well with his backs.
Woodside battled an ankle injury he suffered against Kent State, but is back to 100% and ready for the season.
Not only can Woodside tuck the ball and run (which opens up the option play), he can also air it out. A dual QB and a stellar athlete sets this offense up for success.

Road Warriors
Toledo got no favors when it comes to their schedule.

Toledo will have to go to BYU for non conference play and then will close out MAC with 3 of 4 on the road. Most importantly, their last game of the season against WMU will be on the road, a game that could decide the West yet again.
While road stadiums in the MAC aren’t overwhelming for the visiting teams, looking ahead in these kinds of situations is typical for this conference.
New Faces, Different Places
While Toledo has a lot of returning pieces on the offensive end, the defensive side of the ball is a totally different story.
The Rockets lost almost their entire front to graduation and will rely on a lot of young, new guns to step up.
The problem here is these new defensive guys get broken in with dates against Fresno State and BYU. There is no easy task right from the start, which could knock the confidence levels down early.
Toledo Rockets 2016 Prediction: 10-2
The Rockets offense puts them atop the rankings in the MAC.
While they do finish up on the road in 3 of 4 games, this team should be able to out run a majority of their opponents.
Key dates to keep an eye on are the Week 6 game at Eastern Michigan and the season finale at Western Michigan.

The Week 6 matchup at EMU comes on the heels of a Week 5 date at BYU. Travel and distractions from competition level could become a major factor for a let down here.
That season finale against the Broncos could once again matter in terms of the MAC Title game. Toledo has revenge on their minds this time around and will be looking to spoil Senior Night for the Broncos.
