There is not much too this game. Texas Tech is not going to a bowl and Texas is far away from accomplishing anything meaningful this season.
Texas Tech cannot even play spoiler so it will be a tough sell to keep his guys up for this one, even though it is Texas.

The same can be said for the Longhorns. Maybe a win means they don’t have to play a MAC team in a bowl game.

I liked the Matt Wells hire but it hard to say things are all that different at Texas Tech right now. Maybe the defense is a little better.
This is a team that still has no choice but to pass the ball a lot. Luckily, they are still very good at it, 10th in the nation.
Not only is Wells’ ability to motivate going to be tested by the fact that this game is meaningless but also by the fact that they have lost their last two by a combined 5 points.
This is going to be a very much what if kind of year as four of their seven losses have bene by three points or less. At some point that has to tip.

Texas Tech will be able to play free and easy though and that can make a team that at least does some things well a dangerous opponent.
Texas Longhorns
When Texas came close against LSU there was a lot of optimism. That didn’t last long and now they are closing the season off back to back road losses. Whenever they have played good teams they have been brushed aside.
Sam Ehlinger was an early Heisman hopeful but just good, not dynamic. Maybe that is not fair given the state of the rest of the team but he has not led them further this season.
Whatever happened to Texas running the ball. They should be able to have the line and back talent to be able to maul some of the time but we never see it.
The same should be true of the defense. It used to be that in a typical draft there would be as many Texas defensive players selected as LSU and other elite programs. They are soft on that side of the ball this season. It was a preseason concern that was quickly confirmed.
