Iowa State has rebounded quite well from an early-season disappointment and looks poised for success in the Conference.
Texas Tech seems to be still in a haze after having Texas on the ropes.
If they are going to be considered at least a good team they put up some sort of fight in this one.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
The faces change in Lubbock but the story stays the same. Texas Tech can move the ball and score but they can’t defend to get the results they want.
Last week they didn’t even score that much as Kansas State shut them out in the first half. Starting QB Alan Bowman is questionable for this one too.
As are three receivers but Eric Ezukanma is heathy and with his size and physicality he is one of the toughest covers in the league.
The overtime loss to Texas makes the numbers look a little worse than they are but the Red Raiders are giving up an average of 42ppg, 70th in the nation. The yardage allowed numbers support that too. Also 70th.
If Bowman can’t go in this one I am not seeing how they can keep up on the road.
Iowa State Cyclones
When ISU lost to Louisiana it was a bad look, even though that is a pretty good team. Now they have started 2-0 in B12 play knocking off TCU and Oklahoma. They are kind of in the driver’s seat moving forward.
This recent success is with QB Brock Purdy being more OK than great. Last week against OU he threw for a season high 254 yards and has only 2 TD passes this season. The numbers have been very modest.
That is because running back Breece Hall has been so great. The sophomore is big and physical and has run for at least 103 yards in every game. He has 6 TDs and is a legit Heisman candidate right now.
Iowa State has given up at least 30 points to every opponent this season. If they want to keep winning they are going to have to tighten up things on that side of the ball eventually.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends

Free Week 6 NCAA Football Pick
The key for this one is having a good understanding of the health situation for the visiting Red Raiders. If all of their questionable turn into outs this one might not be competitive at all.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Iowa State -12.5
Even with a healthy squad the Red Raiders might have trouble keeping up. I can get comfortable with Iowa State winning each half by a TD.
The emergence of Breece Hall gives the Cyclones a different way of winning this season. They can use Purdy to get ahead and Hall to close the door. It can be very effective.
