Red Raiders vs. Buffaloes Gameday
The No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders visit the Colorado Buffaloes Saturday night at Folsom Field in Boulder. Texas Tech enters 4-0 and 1-0 in Big 12 play, while Colorado is 2-2 and 0-1.
Kickoff is set for 5:30 PM MT and 7:30 PM ET on FOX.
Texas Tech remained unbeaten with a 49-14 victory over Sam Houston. Colorado opened Big 12 play with a 23-13 loss at Baylor despite outgaining the Bears 363-337.
Texas Tech brings the perfect record. Colorado brings Homecoming and a fairly urgent need to ruin it.
Colorado leads the all-time series 6-5 and won the most recent meeting 41-27 in Lubbock in 2024. Texas Tech’s last trip to Boulder came in 2010, when the Red Raiders escaped with a 27-24 win.

Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Colorado Buffaloes Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make Texas Tech a heavy road favorite. The Red Raiders are -529 on the moneyline, while Colorado is +397.
Texas Tech is laying 13 points, with Colorado getting +13.
The total is 50.5.
The Red Raiders have won all four games, but last week’s final score hid an adventurous first half. Texas Tech led Sam Houston only 21-14 at halftime after committing four turnovers before pulling away after the break.
Colorado has dropped consecutive games to Northwestern and Baylor.
The Buffaloes showed more life in Waco, rallying from 13-3 down to tie the game in the fourth quarter. Baylor scored the final 10 points, leaving Colorado with another loss despite winning the yardage battle and time of possession.

Buffaloes Stats
Colorado is averaging 21.5 points and 399 yards per game through four contests. The Buffaloes have been more productive through the air, averaging 242.5 passing yards compared with 156.5 on the ground.
Joseph Williams has emerged as the biggest receiving threat.
He has 361 receiving yards and four TD’s, including 11 catches for 127 yards and a score against Baylor. Micah Welch leads the ground game with 213 rushing yards and two TD’s.
Colorado’s defense has been better than the two-game losing streak suggests.
The Buffaloes held Baylor to 116 rushing yards and no rushing TD’s while producing a season-high nine tackles for loss. They have also forced at least one turnover in every game.
Colorado keeps finding ways to hang around. Finishing those afternoons has been the considerably trickier part.
The problem has been converting opportunities into points.
Colorado went 3-of-15 on third down and failed on both fourth-down attempts at Baylor. Five trips into Baylor territory produced only 13 points, leaving a lot of decent football with very little scoreboard evidence.
Red Raiders Stats
Texas Tech is averaging 36.3 points and 429.5 total yards per game.
J’Koby Williams leads the Red Raiders with 285 rushing yards, while Kenny Johnson has a team-high 290 receiving yards. That balance gives Joey McGuire options beyond asking his QB to throw Texas Tech through every difficult spot.
The defense has been productive too.
Texas Tech is allowing 18.5 points per game and only 94.8 rushing yards. The Red Raiders have consistently created pressure and can make an offense pay quickly for careless decisions.
Last week’s 49-point output was also a little deceptive.
Austin Romaine returned two interceptions for TD’s against Sam Houston, giving Texas Tech 14 points without the offense needing to finish a drive. The Red Raiders still generated 470 total yards, but ball security remains the obvious item on McGuire’s cleanup list.
Red Raiders vs. Buffaloes QB Matchup
Will Hammond remains the starter for Texas Tech.
He has thrown for 968 yards and four TD’s through four games. Hammond’s season numbers also include five interceptions, with three of them coming during a rough first half against Sam Houston.
He responded much better after halftime and added a rushing TD.
Colorado is turning to Isaac Wilson.
Wilson replaced Julian Lewis after halftime against Baylor and completed 12 passes for 156 yards. His 12-play, 95-yard TD drive pulled Colorado even early in the fourth quarter and gave Deion Sanders enough to make the change for Saturday.

“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Wilson brings considerably more experience than the typical replacement QB.
He made seven starts at Utah as a true freshman before transferring to Colorado, so this isn’t his first time being handed an offense against Power Four competition. What changes is the challenge in front of him.
Texas Tech can create pressure without selling out to do it, while Wilson inherits an offense that has struggled to consistently finish drives against FBS opponents.
Hammond has the more established supporting cast and the luxury of a balanced Texas Tech offense. Wilson’s first start for Colorado comes against an unbeaten opponent with very little margin for the Buffaloes to waste possessions.
Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Colorado Buffaloes bottom line: Texas Tech brings the more stable offense to Boulder, while Wilson gets an immediate test trying to unlock a Colorado attack that has left too many points on the field.
Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Colorado Buffaloes Football Betting Trends
- The Red Raiders are 17-1 straight up as favorites in their last 18 games.
- Texas Tech is 3-0 on the over in games with totals of 50 or more this season.
- Also, the Red Raiders are 12-5 against the spread after a win in their last 17 games.
- The Buffaloes are 3-0 on the over in their last 3 home games.
- Additionally, Colorado is 13-9 against the spread after a loss in their last 22 games.
- Colorado is 9-5 straight up in their last 14 home games.
Red Raiders Buffaloes Free Pick: Under 50.5
Here is my Red Raiders Buffaloes free pick: I’m betting Under 50.5. Colorado has done enough between the 20’s to make its offense look functional, but finishing drives has been an entirely different hobby. That’s a bad problem to carry into a matchup where Texas Tech should control most of the evening.
I don’t need the Red Raiders to completely shut Colorado down. I need them to force the Buffaloes to earn long drives, tackle well in space and make a struggling offense finish possessions instead of settling for field goals, failed fourth downs and punts.
Colorado can pile up respectable yardage again. Fortunately, sportsbooks still pay this ticket with points.
The spread also helps tell the story. Texas Tech is expected to control this game, and if that happens, there is little reason for the Red Raiders to spend four quarters playing with their hair on fire. A comfortable lead lets them lean on the run, shorten the second half and make Colorado provide its share of the scoring.
That’s the betting argument for me: Texas Tech controls the game without needing a shootout, while Colorado has to prove it can consistently finish drives against the best team it has seen. Something around 31-14 gets us there without much drama. Give me Under 50.5.
