Longhorns vs. Sooners Gameday
The No. 1 Texas Longhorns meet the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Kickoff is 3:30 PM ET on ABC for the Red River Rivalry.
Texas enters 4-0 under Steve Sarkisian, while Brent Venables’ Oklahoma squad sits at 2-2. Both teams are coming off a bye, giving them extra preparation time.
The Longhorns have handled their early challenges, including a difficult SEC road victory. Oklahoma needs a statement performance after struggling against stronger opponents.
Texas brings the No. 1 ranking to Dallas, but Oklahoma has every reason to make this rivalry uncomfortable.
Texas won last year’s meeting 23-6 and has taken three straight against Oklahoma. The Sooners haven’t scored an offensive TD against the Longhorns since 2023. Not exactly a statistic Venables wants hanging around the locker room.
Texas wants to protect its unbeaten record, while Oklahoma needs to change the direction of its season.
It’s Week 6, Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners Odds & Last 5
Texas is favored by 8.5 points at -325 on the moneyline, with Oklahoma getting +8.5 and +260. The featured total is 39.5.
The Longhorns defeated Tennessee 20-17 in their latest outing. Texas also rallied past Ohio State earlier this season.
Oklahoma suffered a 41-13 defeat at Georgia after losing 17-10 to Michigan. The Sooners also beat New Mexico 14-6, but offensive consistency remains elusive.
Texas is 1-3 ATS despite its perfect record. Oklahoma is also 1-3 ATS, so neither team has been especially kind to bettors.
The modest total suggests a defensive contest. Compare prices at your preferred sportsbooks, because the difference between eight and nine points can be enormous. That’s not advanced mathematics.

Sooners Stats
Oklahoma has scored 88 points through four games, producing 889 passing yards but only 396 rushing yards. Offensive balance remains a problem.
Lloyd Avant leads the rushing attack with 164 yards and one TD. Isaiah Sategna III has 267 receiving yards and two TD’s, while Rocky Beers has added 255 yards and two scores.
Defensively, Oklahoma has allowed 64 points with 13 sacks and one interception. The Sooners excel in pass defense and third-down stops, making opponents work for every yard.
Unfortunately, Oklahoma’s offense keeps leaving its defense little margin for error. That gets old quickly.
Receiver Trell Harris is out with a back injury. Left tackle Michael Fasusi is doubtful, while guard Eddy Pierre-Louis is questionable. Those concerns complicate an already difficult assignment against Texas’ pass rush.
Longhorns Stats
Texas has scored 133 points through four games, generating 862 passing yards and 589 rushing yards. The Longhorns rely on timely execution rather than overwhelming volume.
Hollywood Smothers leads with 198 rushing yards and two TD’s. Raleek Brown has added 196 yards and four scores.
Ryan Wingo has 239 receiving yards and two TD’s. Cam Coleman has contributed 208 yards and four scores.
Texas has enough offensive talent to punish mistakes, but its defense has been the more dependable unit.
The Longhorns have allowed 53 points while recording 15 sacks and three interceptions. Their pressure has been particularly valuable in close games.
Texas is healthier after its bye, with Smothers and Xavier Filsaime removed from the injury report. Nick Townsend is probable, while Justus Terry and Kaliq Lockett are doubtful. Jordan Coleman remains out.
Sarkisian needs his offensive line to establish the run against Oklahoma’s front. The Sooners aren’t likely to hand over easy yards.
Longhorns vs. Sooners QB Matchup
Oklahoma starts John Mateer, who has thrown for 883 yards, eight TD’s and four interceptions. He’s completed roughly two-thirds of his passes, although turnovers have been costly.
Mateer struggled against Georgia as Oklahoma failed to sustain drives. He needs quicker decisions and better protection.
His mobility remains important when plays break down, but Oklahoma must limit unnecessary hits.
Texas counters with Arch Manning, who has completed 73 of 115 passes for 862 yards, seven TD’s and three interceptions. He’s delivered important throws when needed.
Manning helped Texas rally against Ohio State and managed the offense through its narrow Tennessee victory. His composure has been valuable.
He must avoid forcing throws against Oklahoma’s difficult secondary.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Mateer offers greater improvisational ability, while Manning benefits from a more balanced supporting cast. Both face dangerous defensive fronts.
Oklahoma needs cleaner protection and fewer turnovers. Texas must avoid predictable passing situations against the Sooners’ pass rush.
Field position and third-down execution could decide the afternoon.
Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners bottom line: Texas brings the stronger team to Dallas, but Oklahoma’s defense could make this another tense Red River Rivalry.
Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners Football Betting Trends

- The Sooners are 6-0 straight up after a loss in their last 6 games.
- Oklahoma has a 21-4 straight-up record in home games over the last 25 games.
- Also, the Sooners have covered the spread 9 times in 13 games after a loss.
- The Longhorns are 13-17 against the spread in their last 30 games.
Longhorns Sooners Free Pick: Oklahoma Sooners +8.5
Here is my Longhorns Sooners free pick: Oklahoma Sooners +8.5. Texas deserves its No. 1 ranking, but asking the Longhorns to win this rivalry by more than one possession is another matter. I’ll gladly take the points in Dallas, where rankings have a funny habit of becoming expensive decorations.
Oklahoma’s defense gives the Sooners a legitimate chance to keep this game uncomfortable. The Longhorns haven’t been overwhelming offensively, and a lower-scoring contest makes that extra half-point beyond a touchdown particularly attractive.
I’m betting Oklahoma’s defense keeps Texas from building the kind of margin this spread demands.
The Sooners have covered nine of their last 13 games following a loss, and this is the kind of rivalry spot my college football betting system likes: a talented underdog getting more than a touchdown against a heavily backed favorite. Oklahoma’s offensive struggles are real, so I’m not calling for an upset.
I am calling for a tighter game than the number suggests. OU +8.5.
