The Longhorns have been a very pleasant surprise, their only slip up a head scratching clunker against Maryland in the opener. They are not quite in the tier that Oklahoma is but they have played the Sooners close lately.
Oklahoma has looked very good overall but their schedule has been light. The last time they faced a team with toughness they nearly lost against Army. Now they are taking on a team that can play tough and has enough talent to beat them.
It is hard to know where this Texas program is right now. After losing their opener they have rattled off four wins, including a couple of good ones over USC and TCU. They haven’t always looked great but they are not beating themselves.
Sam Ehlinger has been pretty steady. He threw two interceptions in the opening game but none since and generally completes a high percentage of his passes. It is baffling though that the Longhorns can’t really establish a dominant presence on the ground.
The Texas defense has been just OK this season. They have the raw material but there is not the one or two fearsome players that they tend to crank out. This is by far the best offense they have faced this season so they are going to have to step up.
Oklahoma gets a chance for their close up with their annual game against Texas in the Red River Rivalry. This is one of the most explosive offenses in the country and they are averaging 49ppg. If they get things going they are tough to reel in.
Kyler Murray is probably not better than Baker Mayfield but he is being just as productive if not more. He has already accounted for 21 TDs this season and adds a running element that Mayfield never had. He is on the small side but no QB is a better athlete.
The Texas brand still carries weight so this game gets a fair amount of coverage. If Okahoma wants to secure its spot among the second tier of teams after Alabama it would help to have a big outing against their rival.

Free Week 6 NCAA Football Pick
The numbers on this one don’t make much sense to me. If Oklahoma is winning by more than a TD I think it means that Texas is not slowing then down all that much. The key is the Texas defense and whether it is up to the task.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Over 60.5
I like the side in this one but I like the total too. I see Oklahoma getting into the 40s but their defense is not super so giving up a few scores including one or two of the meaningless variety seems very doable.
This game should get a fair amount of action so it will be interesting to see where the money flows. My guess is many will be on the Texas side plus the points so you might eventually be able to get Oklahoma -7.
