We’ll have an SEC matchup this weekend when the Tennessee Volunteers make the trip south to take the field against the Florida Gators in Gainesville. After dropping their first two games of the season, the Vols will be looking for a second win in a row.
[dfads params=’groups=220&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Florida comes into this game ranked 9th in the country and is unbeaten after getting the best of the Kentucky Wildcats last week.
They did suffer a major blow in the game though with the loss of their starting quarterback for the rest of the season. They’ll need the defense to make some noise this week if they plan to remain unbeaten.
Tennessee Volunteers
The Tennessee Volunteers were finally able to find the win column last week with a 45-0 win over the Chattanooga Mocs. The Volunteers went into the locker room up 38-0 at the half and decided to play it safe in the karma department the rest of the game.
Tennessee had 22 first downs in the game, moving the chains four of 10 times on third-down and converting one of three fourth-down opportunities.
The Vols had 360 total yards with 165 of them coming through the air. When they did keep the ball on the ground, the Volunteers picked up an average of 5.1 yards per carry.

Quarterback Jarrett Guarantano connected on seven of eight passes for a buck 42 and three touchdowns. Ty Chandler was Tennessee’s leading rusher with 48 yards and a score on 10 carries. Marquez Callaway was the leading receiver with two receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, the Volunteers held the Mocs to a total of just 227 yards. They allowed Chattanooga to pick up just 76 passing yards on nine of 26 attempts.
The run defense was a little iffy, giving up 3.4 yards per carry for 151. They were stingy with the ball though, recovering a fumble and intercepting the Mocs four times in the game.
Florida Gators
The Florida Gators were able to get a win on the road against the Kentucky Wildcats, but they lost starting quarterback Feleipe Franks in the process.
The Gators were able to score 19 unanswered points in the fourth quarter after trailing 7-14 at the half. They got pumped up in the locker room just enough for a 29-21 win.
Florida had 438 total yards on offense, racking up 300 of them through the air. The Gators averaged an impressive 5.1 yards per carry in route to 138 rushing yards.
Before being injured, Franks completed 12 of 17 passes for 174 yards with both a touchdown and interception. Kyle Trask finished the game completing nine of 13 for 126 yards. Van Jefferson was the leading receiver with 93 yards on seven receptions.
Josh Hammond was the leading rusher for Florida with a score and 76 yards. There’s a catch, though. He had a heck of a run. The kid only had one carry. Not to take any of the spotlight away from him, but he didn’t exactly play the role of workhorse.
The Gator’s defense had their fair share of struggles in the game, giving up a total of 407 yards to Kentucky. They gave up 267 passing yards on 23 of 35 attempts. They looked good at times against the run, but still gave up 3.4 yards per carry.
Linebacker David Reese II had a monster game with 16 tackles. Jonathon Greenard was able to get to the quarterback for a sack. Shawn Davis showed up to impress with two interceptions.

Free Week 4 NCAA Football Pick
Yes, the Gators will be without their starting quarterback. Because of that, look for Florida to pound the ball on the ground when they’re on offense.
On the other side of the ball, the Gators have a mean defense. No, it’s not the Swamp that was in Gainesville during the ’90s, but they’re hard to score against.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Over
Tennessee has struggled this season. I think that continues this week. I look for the Gators to cover, taking the total over 48.5 in the process.
