The Temple Owls are heading to East Hartford this week for a Friday matchup against the Connecticut Huskies. These rivals have had very different seasons so far.
The Owls have been red-hot lately, winning five of their last six, while the Huskies have dropped two in a row.
This is a match of two teams on very different end of the spectrum in the American Conference, but they are not too far apart in talent.
The Owls won handily last week against Cincinnati 34-13 and are currently in 1st place in the East. Connecticut was blown out last week at East Carolina 41-3.
Temple won last year against the Huskies by a score of 27-3.
Temple ran all over Cincinnati last week and dominated the line of scrimmage. They amassed a total of 275 yards on the ground, and running back Jahad Thomas led the way with 151 of those.
Quarterback Phillip Walker also played well with 199 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Walker has been up and down this year but consistently played well enough to win.
The senior has 1,990 passing yards to go along with 13 touchdowns, but he has also thrown 10 picks.
The strength of the Huskies offense is a tough duo of running backs. Jahad Thomas and Ryquel Armstead have combined for 1,238 rushing yards this year.
They are efficient on both sides of the ball, ranking 38th in scoring offense (33.8 points per game) and 32nd in scoring defense (22.7 points allowed per game).
The Huskies were embarrassed last week at ECU. Their offense was unable to move the ball, even in garbage time, and the defense was just as bad.
Quarterback Bryant Shireffs completed on 16 of 30 passes for 180 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He also led the team in rushing, although they only amassed a total of 89 rushing yards.
Shireffs has had a tough year so far.
He’s thrown for 2,010 yards but only seven touchdowns to six picks.
The offense overall has been very inefficient and unable to score. They score only 18.3 points per game which is 126th in the nation.
The defense has been slightly better, ranking 66th in scoring D and allowing 27.6 points per game.

Free Week 10 NCAA Football Prediction
Temple has been on a role lately and is poised to win the East. They are a very balanced team that puts a premium on efficiency on both sides of the ball.
Connecticut has been unable to stop this kind of balanced team, and have had lots of trouble putting the ball in the endzone.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Temple -10.5
I was a little surprised to see that Temple is only favored by 10.5 in this one. The home field advantage will certainly help the Huskies, but they have been blown out at home more than once already this year.
I expect this one to be another case of that.
