This will be the Big 12 conference opener for both teams. Both TCU and Texas lost in the first three weeks, but a win in the conference is much needed to push for the Big 12 title game.
Last year these two teams met in Fort Worth where the Horned Frogs easily won 24-7.
TCU Horned Frogs
TCU jumped all over Ohio State early and controlled the game until the 3rd quarter when Ohio State scored 20 points and cruised to a 40-28 win.
Despite a loss, TCU will have the chance to bounce back against an in-state rival. Another loss for the Horned Frogs likely knock them out of contention for the College Football Playoffs, so it is vital they earn a win on the road.
TCU has an offense that averages 41.7 points per game. Led by quarterback, Shawn Robinson, they are a well balanced team and can move the ball through the air or on the ground.
Robinson has thrown for 636 yards and five touchdowns this season, but also has three interceptions.
The leading rusher for the Horned Frogs is Darius Anderson, who has 259 yards on 29 carries and also has two touchdowns. If TCU is going to bounce back they will need a strong performance from their #1 running back.
The TCU defense looked great in the first two games, giving up a combined 19 points. In fact they did not look terrible against Ohio State, but as the game went on the Buckeyes where able to wear down the Horned Frogs and score to put the game away.
Also, some offensive turnovers gave Ohio State prime opportunities to score, which they took advantage of.
When Texas lost to Maryland in week one, fans were already calling for coach Tom Herman’s resignation. However, with wins in week two and three (especially against USC) some of the negative comments have died down.
Texas will have the opportunity to start conference play 1-0 and could set up a meaningful meeting with Oklahoma in a few weeks. On the offensive side of the ball, Texas has been pretty consistent, scoring 29 in game one, 28 in game two, and 37 in game three.
TCU will be the toughest defense they have faced so far, so it will be vital that they take care of the ball an are efficient in the red zone.
Ever since week one when Texas gave up 34 points to Maryland, their defense has played a lot better. One of the main ways Texas can pull off an upset is to slow down Darius Anderson and force the TCU quarterback into making bad decisions.
