This ACC contest sees a much improved Syracuse team traveling to Clemson to face the Tigers.
Syracuse has won 2 in a row and looks for a third against undefeated and College Football Playoff contender Clemson.
Eric Dungey has played very well the last 2 weeks for the Orange. Against ACC doormat Boston College he threw for 434 yards with 3 touch downs and 1 interception.
He faces a much tougher test in Clemson this week, and I don’t expect a repeat in those huge numbers in one of the toughest stadiums to play in.
Surprisingly Syracuse was not able to run the ball well against Boston College.
Donate Strickland has 12 carries for just 32 yards in the SU victory. He will need to average a lot more than 2.7 yards per carry if SU will have a shot at pulling the upset.
After struggling the last two games Amba Etta-Tawo came back into form against the Eagles. The All Conference candidate had 10 catches for 144 yards and a score.
He will face off against an amazing secondary and while I don’t see him reaching the 100 yard mark, he will find the end zone.
The Syracuse defense was able to easily stop Boston College from throwing the ball all game last week. The Eagles threw for only 45 yards passing in the contest.
This week they face off against potential #1 pick Deshaun Watson, who has led Clemson to two straight close wins.
When the college football season started it looked like it would be the “DeShaun Watson Show” after his amazing performance against Alabama in the title game last year.
Clemson’s offense has struggled all season long and it looks like Watson has gone from #1 overall pick in next year’s NFL draft to at best a first round pick.
The last two games Watson has thrown for 378 yards each, but the offensive line has allowed him to take a beating. He was sacked 4 times against Florida St.
I’m looking for him to have another big game with 3 touchdowns and over 350 total yards.
Wayne Gallman looked really good against a strong Seminole front seven. As the senior ran the ball 20 times for 82 yards and 2 scores.
If he gets the ball 20+ times in this one look for him to score again and reach 100 yards on the ground.
Mike Williams 4 game touchdown streak was snapped last week, but the receiver still made huge plays against Florida State.
He finished the day with 7 catches for 70 yards and I look for him to start another streak in this game by finding the end zone twice.
The Tigers defense will have to focus on stopping the run this week.
As Dalvin Cook repeatedly beat them for long gains.
Syracuse does not have the talent level at running back, but if Clemson players continue to be out of position then the Orange will be able to chew the clock and keep Watson and the offense off the field.
