The first game of the PAC 12 season for both programs. Oregon is the easy favourite.
Stanford is coming off a rough season a year ago and it not helped by some key opt-outs on both sides of the ball.
Oregon has had those as well and will be looking to find a new quarterback. Otherwise, this number is much larger.
Stanford Cardinal
Stanford is coming into this season as maybe the fourth best team in the PAC 12 North. Expectations are lower than they have been in the David Shaw era.
Their top offensive and defensive players opted out, an offensive lineman and a defensive back. Both losses will hurt but the O-line can still be a strength.
With KJ Costello at Mississippi State, the quarterback position belongs to Davis Mills. He showed last year that he can manage the position.
Unfortunately, he is not blessed with a lot of skill talent around him. Stanford does not have a Bryce Love they can all day long or a true threat on the outside.
Stanford is also not going to get back to winning with regularity until the defense is much better. That unit used to set the tone for the Cardinal.
Oregon Ducks
No matter what the circumstances the Ducks knew they were going to have to replace NFL bound Justin Herbert this season. They just didn’t expect to have to replace Penei Sewell, maybe the best offensive lineman in the country too.
They also didn’t expect to lose three players from one of the best defensive secondaries either. Even though there is a lot to like about Oregon there are a lot of question marks too.
QB is the big one. They have Tyler Shough and transfer Anthony Brown to choose from there. Both could be really good but are unproven for the Ducks.
Even though they lost some guys in the secondary the defense can still be really good. Kayvon Thibodeau is one of the best edge rushers in the game and makes it easier for his teammates.

Free Week 10 NCAA Football Pick
I am not as high on the Ducks as I want to be right now. I think those personnel losses are going to significant enough that they might not be the best team in the conference.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Oregon -9.5
Still, I am not very high on Stanford either. It is a benefit to have some certainty at quarterback but is about all that Stanford really has going for it right now.
I think Oregon can easily win this one by a touchdown and a field goal at home. Stanford might also be a bit behind in prep due to COVID things specific to their campus. That won’t help either.
